Now I've heard that a shrimp bends like an upside down U before they molt. So I'm thinking that action causes the carapace above the head to "pop" open, much like a car hood except the kind that lifts from the front windshield side. So figured maybe that's how the process first begins, by bending ...

Anyway, I'm pretty sure the meds need water changes to be removed, which is why I'm going to wait some time (and after many water changes) before introducing any inverts. I'm also thinking ...

I don't know what to be more jealous of...the shrimp or the camera? Forgive me if you've said this already, but what do you use? I have the hardest time getting decent pictures of anything inside a tank, much less the detail on things like the fans. Anyway, great pics.

I'm nearly positive this was because of the medication.

I know that shrimp have a hard time getting food with fish in a tank, so I fed him separately at least every other day by putting small particles of food lowered ...

My bamboo shrimp molted today, and there isn't anything unusual about the timing as I've had him for a few months and he molted once after I first got him. But something very weird happened.

His front legs (the six that have the fans on them) didn't grow back...the rest of his body molted fine, but ...

I'm sad to say that the ghost shrimp did not make it. However, the rest of them are still perfectly (un)colored and active. I suspect old age, because I could not find any water parameter reason for her to be ill, and the others are not. She was the largest (topping 1.5 ...

Wow, what a beauty! The shrimp I saw was not quite so purple in color.

Medium blue, I would call it cornflower blue, but that's a fairly subjective name. I certainly hope it isn't dye, but I'd never heard of them being naturally blue before.

Someone more experienced than me can probably say, but my guess is that just feeding them adequately and keeping them in good water conditions encourages growth.

Is there a reason you want them to molt?
And exactly how long has it been?

I did an image search on the atya gabonesis. They are similar but definitely not the same. No, this was a wood shrimp- I have one, and they look exactly the same (even around the same size)- except this one is blue.

There are wood shrimp for sale at a local store that are quite blue in color. Other than that they are definitely wood shrimp.

I've done a search online, but I couldn't find anything. I figured here would be the best place to ask.

Has anyone heard of these guys being dyed?

I've got 6 adult ghost shrimp in a newly cycled 29 gal (right now it's just them and the wood shrimp). One of them is milky in color, which I understand to denote illness. The water parameters are good- ammonia is at 0. Temp is 76 F. None of the other five has similar coloring, so I don't think it's ...

I often notice on ovigerous shrimp that there will be an egg or two that looks to be barely attached. Is there some adhesive material on the egg or is there a velcro-like function on the pleopods?

Sorry I haven't updated...I got a new 29 gallon, and I've been going crazy setting everything up. I started stocking yesterday- right now its only inhabitants are 6 adult ghost shrimp. They are certainly having fun :roll:

I'm happy to say the babies appear to be doing well. They aren't benthic yet ...

Babies About 15 or 20 this time.

I've put them in a bare 2 gal. with an airstone for oxygen.

I'm feeding them liquifry...

any suggestions?
