Sounds promising! I'm really interested in how the sand section works out long term as it may provide a housing solution for another species that I'm hoping to get my hands on next year. I have a hunch they utilise some variant of bimodal respiration because I had a chat to the supplier and they sti...

Hey Phil! *waves* Nice to find another crab owner! I think yours might be of the same genus but a different species, the speckling effect is one that I haven't seen in these guys, but I remember seeing it on another type when I was searching. I'll see if I can find the page again... Your setup seems...

It might be worth asking around to see if anyone has a high pressure cleaner, and try hitting it with that. I soaked and scrubbed but that lichen stuff is pretty determined!

I just used rocks with lichen in my tank, and it sent it into a mini-cycle. If it is a small quantity of rock in an otherwise stable tank, you might be right, but keep an eye on it :)

Wonderful, thanks guys! When you say orange claw, is that a random colour variation or a particular strain? He is pretty clever, now that you mention it. I have caught him watching me a few times as I walk about, that just isn't right! He'd sussed out the tank and feeding routine within a day, check...

Help needed with ID for macro shrimp

I picked this guy (is it a male? I'm having difficulty finding diagrams or reference photos of how to tell) up from a friend, and I have no idea what he is or what his potential size is likely to be. Currently he would be about 14-16cm excluding his nippers. I originally thought perhaps he was a che...

That is the one! Gosh, the colour range on these is incredible. I spotted a few last week that were very nearly almost white where these are red/pink. Not sure if it relates to health, diet or environment, but it is definitely interesting. They are on the wholesale list as "freshwater crabs&quo...

Australian freshwater crabs - Austrothelphusa?

Has anyone here kept any crabs from this genus? I believe that all but one are Australian natives, so I'm not liking my chances. Sadly, they aren't all that common with Aussie aquarists. In 7 years I've met one person who kept them. I guess they mostly get sold to the goldfish crowd. They come in wa...

Future breeding pairs - housing?

Hi all :) I've recently acquired two species that aren't all that common in my area and I thought I'd have a try at breeding as they are both very gorgeous critters. Sadly, my last breeding attempt ended in a headless male, so I'd really like to get this right as I don't know if I'll be able to easi...

Ragamuffin, Crayhaven (now closed down) put out a book years ago, it has some basic info on breeding them in a dam. I'd get you the info, but my copy is packed in a box somewhere. Its a blue covered book, Australian crayfish farming or something, by a Robert Mac-something LOL http://www.techbooks.co...

they have... er... white dots *lol*

I always assumed they were claws, they used them in a similar fashion to my cray, for eating and grooming and jousting.

If i had any left i'd get a good photo and blow it up to check.

What else could the 'claws' have been?

Thats the one ;)

Have you ever heard of them being tinted blue (very slighty tint)?

I was unsure when I bought them if it was naturally occurring or if they had been eating the plastic storage tub they were being held in.

Atyidae shrimp - photographs

A few pictures for chlorophyll :) I bought 150 of these from a hatchery on the central coast (that closed 3 months ago! I'm devastated!) and sold a lot on to friends. these shrimp cost approx $3 each from pet stores, and thats if you are lucky enough to find someone that stocks them. I had them for ...
