Re: How to get rid of ammonia?
There are no shrimp, no crabs, no life besides algae inside the unicycled tank. I only started the tank a little while ago, like 15-23 days so it has a lot more time to cycle. I made the mistake of getting live sand instead I of regular sand, I believe that the bacteria died in the brackish water. M...

How to get rid of ammonia?
I was wondering how to get ammonia out of a supershrimp tank. I did an ammonia test today and it register as 0.25 ppt. I'm not sure that I would like to use chemicals as these are finicky shrimp that get killed easily by toxins. Should I change the water? It isn't all the way cycled yet and there is...

Re: Need advice on getting started
I am no expert, but in my experience with freshwater snails breed like crazy. These snails however apparently rarely breed if ever in captivity. In my opinion you probably have a healthy tank.

Re: Asking a beginner question
Geese, big jar! I have a three gallon that I am getting ready to order shrimp and hermit crabs for. Harry how many hermit crabs do you have and where did you get them? I'm getting my shrimp from right here and the hermits at a different place, I would order them here but they don't sell them

Re: Bad luck and big mistakes
Dang, you are correct. I will start over I guess for the sake of the shrimp. I'll just get some more sand and soak all of the stuff in there with new clear water. I have just ordered some pre cultured algae rocks and will put them in the new water/ gravel. Dang it!,,, I also threw my bag of sa...

Re: Bad luck and big mistakes
Thank you and I have been doing that. I thought about putting the filter on, but I disassembled it when I got the tank because these shrimp don't need it so I can't. I've got out most of the big pieces out but the small pieces are very annoying and the water is still coloudy. I hope it clears up soo...

Bad luck and big mistakes
I was in the process of cycling my shrimp tank when I purchased eleocharis parvula (sea grass) that grows in brackish water. It had some gel on the roots. The directions said to wash it off but I was worried about toxins in the water (as I have heard that shrimp are very sensitive to toxins) so I ch...
