Re: Creative Food?
Some of the best high calcium veggies are spinach, collard greens, broccoli, celery, etc. I like to make some DIY "snail jello". It's really simple: You need: Veggies of your choice (I use spinach) High calcium baby food (just go to the grocery store and find the jar with the highest % cal...

Re: Crayfish Tank - sand or gravel?
You're right it may be easier for him to dig around with sand. But there is no right or wrong answer in this situation.

Re: Best Dwarf Crayfish?
The smallest crayfish species that are readily available for purchase (at least online) are Cambarellus shufeldtii and Cambarellus patzcuarensis . The orange variant of the latter is often referred to as the CPO. Both of those species are safe in community tanks as long as the fish aren't aggressive...

Re: Cambarellus shufeldtii with loaches?
The most likely answer to your question is yes, they will be safe with loaches. As a rule of thumb, dwarf crayfish (such as C. shufeldtii, CPO, C. diminutus, etc.) are generally safe with plants, fish, and shrimp. However, on occasion they may get an appetite for one of their tankmates. It could be ...

Thanks a lot for the quick answer ! Craw Chief, i don't fully understand the figure you uploaded. do you have the legend of that figure ? are those different species (A&B vs C&D vs E&F)? That picture was just to illustrate what part of the crayfish needed to be examined in order to dete...

Re: Procambarus alleni care
room temperature or 55-65 degrees F or 65-85 and not one place or website would give me a solid answer so does anyone have any idea about the exact temperature to keep his tank? I'm planning on keeping it at a solid 70 degrees F. Should I change this or is this perfect? 70 is perfect. That's what I...

Re: P. clarkii breeding
Hi Savaia, I've bred clarkiis a few times (both blue and white varieties) and haven't seen this problem. However, I have seen a female with some eggs fertilized and others not in the same brood. I would think if she's throwing them away, that may indicate that they're not fertilized. This could mean...

Re: Anyone provide haul out areas for their CPO?
It would probably look cool, but they don't necessarily need one. It's really up to you. I'd like to see pictures when you set it up.
Also, are you still keeping O. immunis these days? Any other cray species?

Re: Cray fish with Cichlids?
As mentioned by Mustafa, it would probably not be the best idea. The crayfish very well may become food for the fish or vice versa.

Re: Crayfish and tank lighting
None of my crayfish tanks have lights, but if I were to do it, I would probably select LED over fluorescent bulbs although I understand the cost is an issue.
