Re: Remove algae or leave it
I find in the summer I often have to lessen the timer on the light - or just turn it off - otherwise my macro algae gets way too big. I do live in California though so we get lots of sun. Good luck on your babies!

Re: Help me get babies please
Nearly 2 years later, I HAVE A BERRIED SHRIMP! I'm super excited! I did end up moving the tank to a more stable location and that has helped with the salt creep for sure. I've long had a sneaking suspicion that I actually only had one gender of shrimp in there before I ordered more, but we'll never ...

Re: Remove algae or leave it
It looks like your snails are still gripping the walls, which means they are alive. I'm not sure about other clumps of algae but my shrimps do just fine with the macro algae from here. If you want to take it out and the snails are still stuck, it's ok. They can be out of the water for the time it ta...

Re: Moving Shrimp?
You probably didn't let the new tank sit long enough before you transferred them over. Did you transfer some of the old water too?

10 snails might be a bit much depending on the kind. but ten shrimps, go for it!

Re: Question for Owners with Older Tanks
I have a 7 year old 1 gallon tank. The current setup is at least 4 years old. It has black sand with blue pebbles scattered on top, white coral pieces, and red lava rock. I have about 20 shrimps and a ball of chateomorphia from here. Other than the white coral starting to look more green recently, I...

Re: New shrimp papa questions
It's a little hard to tell from your pic, but you might want to check the depth of your substrate. If it's too deep your snails won't reach the bottom and work their magic. Up to around an inch deep is probably fine. What magic is it that their working? I'm just confused why they need to reach the ...

Re: I need help with decorations.
You for sure want some shells or rocks like lava rock that can act as a pH buffer. Other than that you want things for them to climb onto and hide in. Like they stated above: fake plants, rocks, shells etc.

Re: Help me get babies please
I would still move them somewhere where there is less action. As soon as I can figure out what place that would be, I will :D In the meantime, I was still thinking of adding more shrimpies. I have at least 12 shrimps with an (unlikely) max of 20. How many would you recommend purchasing for my 1 gal...

Re: Help me get babies please
Could the salt creep be because I fill the tank too high rather than the water moving? About half the time it touches parts of the lid after I've filled it. Even though I try to fill it below the lid line, I keep failing. I wonder if the capillary action of salt water stronger than fresh, because it...

Re: Help me get babies please
Why do you even have salt creep by the way? Is there a filter integrated into that hood? In a normal setup without a filter there shouldn't be any salt creep at all. Salt creep means that the water surface is moving somehow. The tank sits on a small bedside cabinet. The water does move when I walk ...
