Re: Dark green/black algae? Mold? What is this?

Hello fellow shrimp parents! It's been a few months and the ucky black "wispy moss" and black sand is really getting to me. As usual the adult shrimp don't seem bothered by it, but I suspect it maybe the reason my baby shrimp keep dying. In the 3 years I've had the wine glass tank, none of...

Re: Dark green/black algae? Mold? What is this?

Thank you for the reply! The dark seems to form after the shrimp poop. At first it's light brown shrimp poop that sinks below the surface of the sand. Then it turns green, then gets darker and finally looks black. It doesn't seem to be bothering the shrimps, they are red and reproducing. It just loo...

Re: Dark green/black algae? Mold? What is this?

At first it formed at the bottom of the glass. It was green, then it turned dark green, and now it looks black. I don't think it's connected to the moss.
It is spreading, but not very quickly.

Re: Dark green/black algae? Mold? What is this?

Oh no! How would I go about removing it? I really have no other aquatic tools... The shrimp seem to be doing fine.

Dark green/black algae? Mold? What is this?

Hello all! I've had my shrimp tank for about 2.5 years now. At first I noticed a black spot on the bottom of the tank. Now there's a big blob of black/dark green on the sand substrate. There's also a bunch of teeny little white things on the side of the tank where the moss sits, I'm guessing it's po...

Re: Baby Shrimp Dying

The longest I've gone without feeding them is about 3 months. From what I can tell, they have the same reaction to getting fed after 3 months as getting fed every other week. I will stop feeding them for a few months. There is algae in the tank as well as on the glass. They all seem to be red and mo...

Re: Baby Shrimp Dying

I know this is an old thread, but my baby shrimp are still dying. I've had 4 batches of eggs and none of the babies have survived passed 2 weeks. All the adult shrimp are still red and happy. The last batch survived the longest at around 2 weeks. The only thing I did differently this time was to fee...

Re: New "bottle tank" setup

Thank you guys both for your inputs! The corals I have are indeed small enough to fit the bottle opening, but I'm not sure where I can procure such long tweezers (or the skills to use them!) I have been itching to buy the marimo balls offered by Mustafa and understand that my normal marimo would be ...

New "bottle tank" setup

I just bought a large 5 liter (1.3 gallon) glass coca cola bottle. Is this a good vessel for super shrimp? I'd imagine I can fit 1 gallon of water (maybe a bit less) with sand substrate. I have some corals, but can't imagine how I can position them nicely. I'm not new to super shrimp, I have a 1.8 g...

Re: Baby Shrimp Dying

I think I'm having the same problem. What can I do to help the little baby shrimp survive? The adults seems to be happy and red.

Re: Lethargic/sinking shrimp

That is good to know if it ever happens again. Maybe I'll just have another vase conditioning next to my current one just in case... The tilting shrimp are probably all dead (unfortunately they all look the same). I have counted up to 18 shrimp in my 1.33 gal vase. They are very red and seem to be h...

Re: What food do these shrimp really LIKE?

Hmm, ok I see; good quality fish food.
Currently my vase looks very clear, but I do have some brackish moss.
This takes so much self control not to over feed these little critters.

What food do these shrimp really LIKE?

I read on here that they will eat any type of flake/pellet fish food, but is there a particular food these shrimp really like? Has anyone found a food their shrimp go crazy for? Or do they really not care? I have been advised to throw away my decade old goldfish food (does this stuff even go bad?). ...
