Re: First Aquarium!

you have ammonia in your tank, ammonia will kill pretty much all snails and shrimp. Ignore the information about water changes shouldn't be done... you need to keep ammonia and nitrites as low as you can. Opae ula deal perfectly with parameter swings (its what the are good at) so changing tank water...

Re: Supershrimp preparation questions

evaporation is going to be a pain in the ass with a vase, you wont stop contaminates falling in either.

Your tank is ready when its finished 'cycling' via the nitrogen cycle... not just when you get algae. Algae is a food source not a sign the water is healthy enough for Opea ula shrimp.

Re: First Aquarium!

put the snails in ammonia free water, its killing them. you can do water changes to reduce the ammonia, it wont slow down the tank cycle. they may survive the ammonia but it isnt healthy for them and should be avoided at all costs. They don't really care. Some creatures are a lot less sensitive to ...

Re: Progress updates

If you have a cycled tank, ammonia is instantly turned into nitrites, this then gets turned into nitrates by friendly bacteria. If you have ammonia then you have not gotten a cycled tank, if you are over feeding or something decaying and nitrates are not increasing then the nitrogen cycle isn't doi...

They really do work well though. try it out for a few months until you are happy your shrimps are doing well. They do different size vials, i use this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/Prodibio-L...

i use a product called prodibio biodigest, this will help speed up the tank cycle and remove ammonia, nitrites and nitrates at the same time.. always worth a shot.

Re: Popcorn of Death

give me some credit, fresh water is better for the shrimp then ammonia. The guy hasn't changed any water and has lost shrimp. I did 50% water change every few days for over a month to reduce nitrites and i didn't loose one shrimp. Varanus doesn't understand the meaning of water conditions it seems, ...

Re: Popcorn of Death

nope, water changes wont get rid of any of your beneficial bacteria, ammonia kills your shrimp, the ammonia is made from something rotting or something dying. You can get die off from rocks, plants etc. all you need to do is change 50% of your water today and maybe do 20% every other day until you g...
