As long as the shrimp is healthy it will get all of its legs bag after the next molt. :)
You are right! i transferred the shrimp that lost all of its legs out into a hospital tank so that it wont get harassed by the rest of the alphas. It was only able to move by fanning its swimmerlets and wasn ...

Re: Tranferring from one enclosure to another...
Dont worry they arent so easily shocked. They are shipped across the world in bags which are tossed and turned by the delivery service like any other parcel and still arrive fine at the destination. Just for comparison. A little water sloshing isnt going to hurt.

Do shrimps regenerate limbs?
Does anyone know do shrimps such as Opae Ula regenerate limbs? Today i discovered my Alpha (Metabetaeus Iohena) missing his feeler and both hind legs and was kind of dragging himself across the floor. I was wondering if the limbs will be regenerated or is there any way to accelerate the regeneration ...

Re: Breeding Alpha Opae Ula (Metabetaeus lohena) - First Pregnancy!
Thanks for the comments! I am actually using a handphone to take the pictures. You would be surprised how well handphones can take pictures these days, especially close up macro shots. I am using a samsung galaxy note 5. To be honest the pictures can actually be better if the alpha wasnt always ...

Re: Breeding Alpha Opae Ula (Metabetaeus lohena)
I came home today and to my surprise.... I have my first berried alpha!!! This alpha got pregnant in a tank where there are only 3 alphas, so I guess im pretty lucky because there must be at least 1 male inside! I was afraid they were all females

Re: Breeding Alpha Opae Ula (Metabetaeus lohena)
I have been thinking about the easiest way to go about this. How about creating a separate container with full ocean salinity, and transferring a berried alpha over once it is identified? That way when the larvae are released, it would be easier to just catch the one alpha out while leaving the ...

Re: Breeding Alpha Opae Ula (Metabetaeus lohena)
I see. I'm wondering why would the larvae die in brackish water when the natural habitat of the alphas are in the same anchialine pools as the opae where full saltwater environment doesn't occur.
I have also read about the golden pearls in your posts and some research on them indicated that the ...

Re: Breeding Alpha Opae Ula (Metabetaeus lohena)
If a 100 micro size food is needed, why cant we just use the usual powdered spirulina algae? It doesnt foul the water easily, stays suspended mid-water for a long time, and each flake is easily around 100 micron.
And since normal opae ula or alphas eat them, they wont stay long enough to foul the ...

Hi Kencontigirl,
Thanks for your posts. They were insightful, however there does not seem to be updates for a long time. Have you been more successful since? From what i could tell, the posts stopped after a while and it does not seem the larvae made it to adulthood.

Re: Breeding Alpha Opae Ula (Metabetaeus lohena)
From what i can gather from my online research, the survival rate of the larvae are very low. How low, I am not too sure. I am also not able to find any information giving tips on how to breed them, what to feed the larvae, or find any reference anywhere that shows someone has successfully bred them ...

Breeding Alpha Opae Ula (Metabetaeus lohena) - First Pregnancy!
Hi,
May i know has anyone been successful breeding the Alpha Opae Ula (Metabetaeus lohena)? I have a few of these shrimps and would like to set up a seperate breeding tank just for them. Any tips for success?
For example, how often to feed these shrimps and what should they be fed? Should these ...

Re: How to ensure shrimps are well fed but not overfed?
Thanks for the clarification! Much appreciated. As a side note I have noticed that after the last feeding session they have reduced grazing by a great amount, and are mostly just standing still on the rock. So perhaps they are full? I will stop feeding for a while and see if they start grazing again.

Re: How to ensure shrimps are well fed but not overfed?
Hi. I have read a post by Mustafa before that throughout all his years of rearing opae ula. He has not once encountered a situation where opae ula stop breeding due to overcrowding. And looking at those crowded tanks by opae ula breeders, those shrimps seem happy to hang out around each other in ...

Re: How to ensure shrimps are well fed but not overfed?
Hi, thanks for the feedback! If you dont mind could you quote me Carolina's post?
But does it mean shrimps would overfeed themselves? Hence it is unhealthy? Im still not quite sure how this would be bad for the shrimps.
