I keep my Red cherry shrimp in a tank with gravel and some java moss.
I give the 4 Gal. tank a drop of liquid fertilizer per day to encourage the growth of algae and the moss.
The lighting is a 15Watt PL light. Is this recommended ?

How much kH and gH is enough for Red cherry shrimp ?
Recently, my 4 Gal. tank's kH drop to 5 dkH from the usual 7dKH. My pH is at 7 - 8. So I topped up with NEW coral chip and discard the old. At the same time, I give the clogged hang-on filter a wash in old water from the tank. Strange but the kH just stay at 3 dkH afterward and just won't go up. So ...

I have found more and more adult shrimps affected by it.
Is it an organ or eggs of some sort ?
Does it happens only to female shrimps ?

Pearl shrimp kill my Neon Tetra
I just saw my Pearl shrimp eating a Neon tetra "alive" a while ago ! It happened when I switch-on the light to check the shrimps. That might have 'trigger' something in the pearl shrimp for I saw one running away. While the other Pearl shrimp had a 'live' neon struggling in it's mouth ! Th...

Mustafa, It's so sad to hear that. I always thought that the ecosystem in the sphere is so well balance. In your opinion, is it feasible to start a shrimp tank naturally with just gravel and Java mosses and keep the Cherry red shrimp happy ? I would like to keep it simple without lights, electric ai...

I think I will settle for the near-to-windows approach. Out of curiosity, I did an experiment: I put the following in a small goldfish tank (the size of a bowling ball) for 2 days: - 2 red cherry shrimps - 3 snails - some coral chips and gravel - some christmas moss Except from the foul smell coming...

Inbreeding Red Cherry Shrimp
Just for curiosity, does anyone cross-breed their Cherry Shrimp ? I'm worried that the size of the brood will be greatly reduce by inbreeding. My Red Cherry give birth to about 20 offsprings. Is that the maximum considering it's small size ? How many young can your Red Cherry Shrimp give birth to ea...

Re: Hmm
I have sucessful breeded Red Cherry Shrimp in a 4 Gal tank with some java moss and gravel. Now I have a total of 20+ offspring. I added a handful of coral chips in the hang-on-the-glass external filter to make the water harder. Both the Malaysia trumpet snails and the round body snails(I don't know ...
