Re: Moving to a new tank, need advice

lol a floating hydrometer might get close to hitting the bottom of that container, but it will probably fit. Rather than getting the new tank to an "optimal" salinity level (which is debatable if there is even one) what you should be more concerned with is that you match the salinity of th...

Re: My 2 liter Opae Ula project(s)!

That's an amazing set up! How many do you have already in there? They breeding constantly? Thank you, Im quite fond of it. As mentioned on the mother site, opae ula make the perfect nano tank critters. (and this is about as nano as it gets!) My only disappointment is my macro algae seems to deterio...

Re: My 2 liter Opae Ula project(s)!

Just a small update, I started my project just under 2 years ago, and everything is thriving. On at least my 4th set of larva. There are shrimp at all stages of life, its pretty darn cool. Im thinking of starting a 2nd box soon. Havent topped off or fed in close to 6 months. I went on a 6 week pater...

Macro Algae turning white

My marco algae has been steadily turning white since I got it and my first 10 shrimp just over a year ago. http://i.xomf.com/jbvqz.jpg The LED lights on it are these here . If anything Id say it gives off more than enough light. I covered some of the LED's with electrical tape. Should I try dimming ...

Re: Shrimplets on the way!

Congrats! Having your first larva is very exciting. When they are first released as "floaters" they are impossible to miss. Once/if this happens try not to do any changes - no feeding, topping off etc. After about 2 weeks they will be come benthic (walk around on the ground) like the adult...

Re: 2 liter Opae Ula project - I have larva!

Small update: I went to go do a top off, clean up salt creep etc. Before I did this, I spent a good 15+ min looking for the baby shrimp. I could not find a single one. I really looked hard! I was a bit disappointed. So I proceeded to do the top off. Im not sure why but when I do the top off, the shr...

Small update: 2 liter Opae Ula project - I have larva!

For a while I wasnt sure if the shrimplets died or not. I couldnt locate any of them for a time. Yesterday I spotted at least 2 separately. They are very very hard to see! They have indeed turned into mini versions of the adults, and display the same benign behavior etc. I will probably top off late...

Re: To Cover or Not to Cover

My setup is covered and its VERY tight. Not quite air/water tight but very close.

Just keep in mind that if you keep your water level too close to the lid, you will likely get a ton of salt creep.

Re: Bioluminescent dinoflagellates and Opae Ula?

These are Phytoplankton, no? Wouldnt tiny shrimp like Opae Ula gobble them up?

My snails do this all the time. In fact its rare not to see at least one above the waterline. Maybe they just hate my tank lol.

Re: 2 liter Opae Ula project - I have larva!

Yeah that salt creep is lame. I dont re-add it to my setup because taking the top off and on is a bit of a chore and I avoid disturbing the setup as much as possible. Oddly the 2 times I did top off I did a measure before and my salinity didnt seem that affected (the creep is a bit flaky and not tha...

2 liter Opae Ula project - I have larva!

My original post on my setup is here . I havent posted updates in a while as there was not much to update - until now! Apparently I now have baby shrimp. I did not notice them on Friday (02/05/2016) but I did yesterday afternoon (02/08/2016). Admitedly I do not pay as much attention to this setup as...

Re: My 2 liter Opae Ula project(s)!

I thought that the SG of sea water was at least 1.028, and 1.017 would a good brackish number. Im glad you replied. I will keep my box at 1.013 and at next top off I will probably siphon out a tiny bit of water and top off with distilled, and go back to 1.012 or 1.011. Part of my problem with my hyd...

Update: new offspring

Your tank looks really beautiful, love the red stones. Sorry for the poor snail, but those guys reproduce so fast it will be replaced in no time Thanks for the complement. Your statement of them "reproducing so fast" is in line with a new update... I have my first offspring! No, not new s...
