Re: Parasites on my snails?
Thanks, Jenny. I have indeed one single horned Nerite snail. I was afraid it might be some nasty pest, it will be a relief if it's just eggs Since my Nerite is alone and celibate I guess those eggs are not fertilized anyways?

Parasites on my snails?
Hello everyone I have noticed these white things on many of my snails' shells. They look like certain pests you see in plants. Anybody knows what they are and whether I should be concerned? The snails seem to be alright, in fact their reproduction rate is so humongous that I have culled the populati...

Re: Unknown species in my tank
Thanks, Varanus. I will let it be. I see them once in a while, but they are always very small, so I guess once in a while a new one is born and then dies quickly.

Unknown species in my tank
I am uploading some pictures of what I believe is a medusa in my tank. I have detected its presence many times but this is the first chance I had to snap a couple of pictures (and even a video that I don't know how to upload). It is minuscule in size, the maximum diameter of the balloon part is perh...

Re: All larvae die. HELP
Hello Mustafa, hi everybody! First of all thanks for your advice and all your replies as always. It's been a long time but I am back with some good news, finally :D Since my last message quite a bit has happened. My shrimp kept getting berried but no larva would survive their first night. I bought t...

Re: All larvae die. HELP
Hello everyone I have been doing water tests daily. Ph seems to be a bit higher since I put the egg shells in the tank. Hopefully it'll keep ticking up. I appreciate what Ken was saying. The shrimp seem to be happy. In fact a second female is about to get berried, I have seen her swimerettes distend...

Re: All larvae die. HELP
Yes, I have tested four times with the same results. Tomorrow after 24 hours of egg shells I'll test again. Hopefully the results will be better.

Re: All larvae die. HELP
I was terrible at chemistry during my high school years, little did I know it would come back to haunt me! After reading your comments I have decided to use egg shells as an emergency solution since I don't have aragonite or crushed coral handy. When setting up the tank I used a big chunk of fossili...

Re: All larvae die. HELP
Thanks for all the advice, guys. Since I changed the water, stopped feeding and started the weekly tests i have seen no changes in ammonia, nitrites or nitrates. They all seem to be very low. However in today's test I have seen that both alkalinity (KH) and pH are extremely low. I am enclosing a pic...

UPDATE: All larvae die. HELP
Hello everyone. Since my last post this is what happened: The last batch of larvae predictably died. I did a 50% water change and haven't fed anything at all since then (it must have been a month now). My last two water tests, done both at the store and home with the strips I bought, indicate no amm...

Re: All larvae die. HELP
After reading the last posts I have done some research about the nitrogen cycle, clearly I should have done that in the beginning. Right now my last berried female is about to release the larvae, they are all dangling from her abdomen. Because of that I'm not going to do water changes or anything dr...

Re: All larvae die. HELP
Thanks Jenny and Varanus. I am pretty sure the marimo is not the cause, it looks very green and healthy, but I just took it out anyway just in case. The snails seem very healthy. Their numbers have probably doubled from the original 10. Since you were mentioning that they produce waste that can be h...

Re: All larvae die. HELP
Yes, I have a very healthy macroalga, which has grown a lot since I got it, and a marimo ball as well as some hair algae that appeared spontaneously

Re: All larvae die. HELP
This morning the eggs have hatched. The female has 12 or 15 larvae still attached to her. I think it's too late to try the water changes. I am sorry for the little larvae. I just hope that in the future I will get new berried females. I never had any kind of tank or fish, therefore my utter clueless...
