Re: Random (or not) shrimp death?

Thanks so much Mustafa! This one Nerite Lyle definitely seems to collect a lot of dust whenever he makes an escape attempt, and who knows what he picks up. He'll be going back in my planted tank as soon as I know it's safe, following the great fenbendazole disaster.

Re: Random (or not) shrimp death?

The tank is about 2.5 gallons. This tank has been set up since February this year, but was upgraded from a 1Gal tank I started just about a year ago. At this point, it has roughly 25 adult shrimp, and 11 babies from one batch of eggs that successfully went benthic about 2 months ago (impossible to c...

Re: Random (or not) shrimp death?

I'll test the ammonia as soon as I get home from work today! I only feed once every 3-4 weeks anyway. There is plenty of room for the nerite (1/2 inch or more at the top). There are 2 in there, and one has never, ever made an escape attempt. Only the Tiger nerite likes to escape occasionally. The mo...

Random (or not) shrimp death?

Hey friends! So after many many months of a happy and stable environment, and a batch of 11 babies that seem to be thriving, I've had some unexpected shrimp deaths! About 2 or 3 months ago, I noticed a shrimp perished shortly after I re-adjusted the fan coral. He had looked pretty banged up for a fe...

Re: My first berried shrimp!

Well, all 11 are still bobbing along, and they will be a week old on Monday. When do they become benthic?

Re: My first berried shrimp!

Well, my first berried shrimp ended up dropping all of her eggs, which was unfortunate but not unexpected for a new tank. THAT SAID! When I turned on the light this morning, I noticed 6 little larvae floating around, and a momma shrimp holding about 4 or 5 more!!! I didn't even see her over the last...

Re: My first berried shrimp!

Well, sadly, mamma shrimp #1 has dropped all but 2 of her eggs. That said, right now there is another female shrimp with stretched out swimmerets and the males are going nuts! Also, about 5 other females seem to have very developed saddles, so I'm hoping for some better luck in the near future. Stil...

Re: Amano eating RCS? +nerite problem

Yeah, the scenario Mustafa describes seems more likely. The fenbendazole killed off my shrimp pretty slowly, but it was the only thing I changed when they were previously doing very well. After several months of water Ans filter changes, I'm just now trying again with 3 neocaridina. I'll probably tr...

Re: My first berried shrimp!

Well, she already dropped several of her eggs, so the batch is much smaller now. It looks like she's still hanging on to 6 or 7 :( I expected this since the tank is still relatively new and I just got the majority of my shrimp almost exactly 2 months ago. They seem to be enjoying the warmer weather,...

Re: Accidental 1-Gal Planted Tank

I do! I actually overdosed if with anti-worm meds a few months ago and killed everything :( However, I cleaned the crap out of it, changed the filters and vacuumed the gravel, and am just now starting over again. I have 3 neocaridina in there and they seem to be fine so far (it's been 1.5 weeks), bu...

Re: My first berried shrimp!

Oh, you guys will certainly get plenty of updates! I'll try to bust of my husband's fancy camera with the Macro lens, too, to get some better photos.

So I've got to wait about a month? Oof...

My first berried shrimp!

Hi everyone!!! I am very very very excited to announce that I have my first berried shrimp! I am also pretty sure there may be more on the way. I want to thank all you guys for your help when I had a surprising die-off, and for your suggestions when I was upgrading my tank a few months ago. It...

Re: Transitioning Snails

My 2c... Nerites are actually my favorite aquarium inhabitants! While they can be sensitive to certain chemicals, they are generally pretty tough otherwise. I was popping my nerites between my FW aquarium and my Opae Ula aquarium without any acclimation whatsoever, depending on which tank needed the...

Re: MiniShrimps

Hi! I've had a tiger nerite (Lyle) in my tank for a little over six months. He is pretty voracious, but tends to stick to the algae on the glass, and can't get into all the nooks and crevices on the coral and lava rocks, so he leaves plenty of food for the shrimp. I was popping him back and forth be...
