Re: Sea water
I do not think it's a good idea to use half sea water with half distilled water. Not all of the organisms will able to survive the change to brackish water, and I think there will be a spike in ammonia when there is a die off. I live in northern California and am familiar with Monterey, which is sup...

Re: Supershrimp Mossballs vs. Marimo Balls
I have your macroalgae in my tank, and I think my light is very strong because the algae is now a light green color, instead of deep green. Will the moss ball survive in a tank with strong light? Also, how often does it propagate? Can you tear them into small pieces to speed up the process, or does ...

Re: Shrimplets on the way!
How's that larva doing? Should be a shrimp by now. Any more on the way? The first successful mama released 5 larvae that are now shrimplets!! I just had my second mama release a whopping 29 larvae, all from the same mama! There might be 30, but they are hard to count, and I know there are 29 for su...

Re: Random (or not) shrimp death?
It sounds like you are doing everything right. I think you should still test ammonia.
How big is your tank, how many shrimps do you have in there, and how long has it been set up for?

Re: Random (or not) shrimp death?
Shrimp deaths could suggest high ammonia to me. I would test ammonia right away. I would also stop feeding immediately and not feed for 3-4 weeks, or more. Make sure to remove any dead shrimp as soon as you notice them to prevent ammonia levels from rising. Nerite snails need to be able to rest out ...

Re: Raising pH an mini market?
I didn't know that might be limestone. Thanks for the info Varanus! You can test by dripping vinegar on it and seeing if it fizzes and bubbles.
But it's strange that the ph is low. Test using a liquid test kit, or call local fish stores to see if they can check for you.

Re: Raising pH an mini market?
You are right, a ph of 6.5 is much too low. You probably already know this, but you are aiming for around 8.0. Just to confirm, you used distilled water and Instant Ocean? If so, it is very strange that the ph is so low. I wonder if there is a rock in your tank that is affecting the ph. I thought li...

Re: Beginner Jar-Habitat
Your tank looks great! I love the look of sand. When I upgrade, I'm going to switch to sand. You should get a pair of long tweezers. I bought some 12 inch tweezers off amazon or eBay for around $7. I love them. And like Varanus mentioned, the little hole at the top is perfectly sufficient for air fl...

Re: My Tank
I was able to find a shrimplet and take a picture. My camera is not very good and it was hard to focus. The shrimplet is a little to the left of the center, standing on the gravel.

My Tank
Hi! I haven't posted pictures for a while. Here is my tank now, with my berried mama! It's about 2 gallons with aragonite gravel, sea fan, and some dead corals. My 15 original shrimp are now 20, as my larvae turned benthic. I couldn't find any of them to take a picture of though. They are really tin...

Do you have questions about them? I have macroalgae but not the moss balls. Those were too expensive for me, too.

Re: Starting the tank- instant ocean ?
I had trouble mixing up Instant Ocean salt as well. I ended up heating up some water to help it dissolve but it didn't work very well. Next time I would mix the water and salt in gallon jugs and shake it and let it sit. It sounds like you figured it out though. I would love to see a picture of your ...

Hello!
A few of us are active, but Mustafa usually only checks in every few months. If you place an order he will ship it pretty quick. But if you ask him a question it could be a while before he answers. If you have questions, try posting here.
