Re: Dwarf Hermit Crab Tank (Calcinus laevimanus)
I am really interested in the progress you make with these little guys. I watch this and a thread in the super shrimp area to see others' experience with the dwarf crabs in both filtered and unfiltered tanks. I had bad luck with unfiltered, but my tank size may have been too small to support them pr...

Re: Calcinus laevimanus
Thank you for sharing this; finding anything about them online has been frustrating. The left-handed species is quite beautiful. I would love any information you can glean from these fascinating characters. There are others on the site who seem to have had some luck with them. I'm hoping they will c...

Re: Calcinus laevimanus
That is the crab I originally wanted, but it never seemed to be available. I "settled" for the dwarf hairy leg crab (still can't find a scientific name for them), and I'm glad I did. Mine rarely hide and are quite entertaining. Just the other day I happened to catch one exchanging shells, ...

Re: I just switched my baby shrimp to an aquarium
I have both filtered and unfiltered tanks. My hermit crabs seem to need a filter to thrive. I have had good results using a sponge filter with an air control valve in the airline so I can keep it low. I turn it off sometimes because the hum of the air pump gives me a headache. When I plug it back in...

Re: Setting up my first Opae Ula tank
I started out using live sand, but have since changed it to an inert sand. Watch (esp. at night) for unwanted critters. I found a bristle worm in my tank that hitched a ride in with either the live sand or a piece of coral. My experience with the cholla wood was bad. When I put it in one tank for a ...

Re: Dwarf Hermit Crab
I got 10 crabs in 2014 and distributed them among several set-ups. The only ones that survived are the two in my 2.5g filtered tank, with airflow I control to keep low. All the ones I had in unfiltered tanks died. I remember to feed them once a week, or two...or longer :? . I have had good results w...
