Re: What is in my sand ?
Try either the snails that are on this website. Or see if your local petstores have 'trumpet' snails. Sometimes stores don't 'sell' them because they ate just considered pest snails in most tanks cuz they feed and gets over populated. But sometimes you can get them for free... my local petsmart just...

Too much coral?
So I found these two nice coral at a new local fish store (I barely skimmed over and grabbed first two nice ones I was way too excited and rushed...) they were so very cheap.... I got them both for under $2! http://smg.photobucket.com/user/carmesitoren/media/Mobile%20Uploads/Coral.jpg_zps5lnzgpyc.jp...

Macroalgae turning dark green?
So when I got my macroaglae it was kind of a light green. But I noticed this last week it has been getting darker and darker. I will try to get a pic of it tomorrow. No shrimp yet just snails, and finally have a bunch of algae growth. Just wondering if the macroaglae turning green was anything to wo...

Re: Starting the tank- instant ocean ?
Though I'm not sure it's limestone. Kinda looks like it but it want labeled.
I will ask next time I go to the fish store. She said something about the stones that give white powdery residue all producing calcium though... or something...

Re: So it begins (also ? Surface film?)
=) I will keep an eye on the algea see if it spreads. It's just a tiny tiny bit so I feel like it's not enough just yet. Plus I still need the liquid test for my mom's freshwater shrimp anyway (they are a bit more picky) But at least that means I will prolly get to order shrimp this month =3... I wa...

Re: Starting the tank- instant ocean ?
Thanks =3 An it looks like my ph is good. Just gotta wait for my liquid test to come in the mail (ordering tonight) to test to be extra sure. I tested with the lil strips but want to get a liquid test to be a bit more acurate. On another note should I add a lil piece of cuttle bone for calcium? I co...

Re: So it begins (also ? Surface film?)
Ah ok. I wasn't sure... since when I had snails before in my freshwater tank and they ran out of food they would float on the surface before resorting to eating my live plants if I didn't feed them. Someone told me it was a sign they were hungry and floating trying to catch falling depris. In anothe...

Re: white spots in algae and on branches
Hmm strange indeed. Well if you do manage to figure it out before someone has any ideas, do let us know. I'm curious what it is now. I wonder if any of the shells do have snails... unless you check that they are hollow, sometimes you rarely see some snails move around (some are nocturnal so only mov...

So it begins (also ? Surface film?)
So the tank has been set up 3 weeks... everything looks good so far. I'm getting a liquid test next month to test before I order any shrimps. For now just been using the free test strips. But I want to use a liquid test to be sure before I add any shrimp. (With how expensive it can be to order them ...

Re: Moving my 1 Gallon to a 5 Gallon
Agree with the last poster. I would add some of the water and maybe a lil of the substrate or decor to help the cycling along quicker. Then when it's cycled move over all the decor that's left and some more water if desired. But leave it at least half full. Then just use a lil net to catch them to m...

Re: white spots in algae and on branches
Do you by chance have any nerite snails? One of them may have come of age, or now finds it wants some babies... they look like snail eggs to me. They will not hatch (or they die as they hatch....) in brackish water. They need full salt. But they still lay them sometimes an leave lil white dot's all ...

I got some real coral (overy in that left corner) and aragonize sand that it's on top of. I also got some macroaglae in there now. An the lace rock has tons of holes, and behind it i...

Re: Raising pH an mini market?
Thanks all. Yeah I don't know what limestone looks like... but the girl at the fish store did say she thought it was one that leached calcium and helped buffer ph. But I am going to take it out and do the vinager test. And ask if the fish store does water tests. Because I had it tested at petsmart a...

Raising pH
So I setup my tank last week. It's a 5gl tank. It has some black aquarium sand (from petsmart) 2 lace rocks, a random white rock, and a piece of fake coral (all bought at an aquairum specialty shop) An a few lil rocks n shells that I had. The salinity is 1.011. I also added 10 trumpet snails. I had ...
