Re: Moving Shrimp?

You probably didn't let the new tank sit long enough before you transferred them over. Did you transfer some of the old water too? Yes, though another poster in this thread said I should be good to go right away, I let the container sit for a week and I transferred most of the water from the old ta...

Re: Moving Shrimp?

I'm sorry you lost your shrimp :( I hope the survivors continue to thrive! What are the grass and marimo balls you mentioned? Did you purchase them from this site? If not, you should remove them because they will slowly break down and poison your tank. 10 of the snails sold here are not too many fo...

Re: Moving Shrimp?

I thought I'd come back and report. I made new water using distilled and the ocean salt (I ended up with a 50 gallon bag!) and I did let it sit for a day or two. I then scooped up my shrimp with a net and moved them into the new tank that has shells, grass, a barnacle and a couple marimo balls so th...

Re: Moving Shrimp?

@Dch48, thanks! I'll have to try that then if I can ever get any from the store. I only have one gallon and it's a three gallon tank. That's another thing I wanted to take care of until Gov. Whitless decided we can't have more than 5 people per 1000 square feet in a store at one time... *sigh* I do ...

Don't you let it perk for a couple weeks first? Even when I bring the brackish water home from my local shop, I let it sit for at least a week.

Re: Moving Shrimp?

If you have (or can get) a long-handled measuring spoon, that could work. Just may take some patience as you try to scoop them up. If you take some of the water out of the original tank it might make it easier by confining them to a smaller area. This is how I got my shrimp into their jar tank as i...

Re: Moving Shrimp?

Well, I had to order a turkey baster because I don't have one. I don't know that the container they're in will fit inside the new tank other than standing up. Also, I used Carib for the base and I just don't want to crush any of them under it. I can't move them until the new tank cycles through anyw...

Moving Shrimp?

I had an Ecosphere that I realized was not a good way to have shrimp so I freed the two that were left into a one quart jar that I'd set up with substrate and other accoutrements that I'd read about here. Well, after a year of being free, they're thriving and, once freed, reproduced! I now have a lo...

Re: Shrimp and aquarium dummy

I read often but rarely post however, I thought I'd tell you my experience with my Ecospheres and 'setting them free'... I had one left in one Ecosphere and two left in my daughter's and I felt so bad for them! So I followed a lot of the information here, but didn't want a huge tank set up (I have t...

Re: Ecosphere Releasees

Thank you again. :) I won't feed them more than a tiny piece of pellet then once a month. I definitely don't want anything rotting in there. I feed my RCS a pellet or two every two weeks, but I have several and also four nerites in there so within 10 minutes of dropping the pellet in, they'res a pil...

Re: Ecosphere Releasees

I've come back with another question or four! So, my little tank seems to be doing well. I took the nerite out, there is a bit of algae growth on the glass, the moss seems to be doing well and I actually had to remove a bit of the microalgae because it was growing a bit faster than I thought it woul...

Re: Ecosphere Releasees

You're right, of course. When I realized all the nerite eggs were gone off the glass, I assumed and yes, we all know what that means. :( I've been picking teeny tiny pond snails out of the RCS tank now for several days. I'll take the ones I can collect and move them to the lake near us and the rest ...

Re: Ecosphere Releasees

Thank you! I did read through that a couple times, but I wanted to make sure. Thank you. I've never worked at all with salt water of any kind so I'm just trying to make sure they live. I did order 10 more and will see how they do, but they should have enough room. Ironically enough, the freshwater R...

Re: Ecosphere Releasees

I have come back with another question. Sorry! I put a small piece of cuttlebone or some ground eggshells in my RCS tank to help with shell development. Should I also do that in this as well? I'm not sure I've seen this addressed but since they also have a shell, would it be a good idea?
