Re: Q about Food
I just started introducing food for my shrimps after a year and 5 months. Started with 75 shrimps and I think I'm somewhere around 300 shrimps now. I have been giving them a very small piece of cooked chicken egg yoke and they seem to like it a lot. Picture below was first experiment where I introdu...

Re: First Tank
Been awhile since my last update. My shrimps have been having babies since late spring and based on my count for each cycle of new borns that I can visually see I think my original 75 shrimp population has at least doubled. I still see 3 berried females that haven't released their babies yet. My sna...

Re: Why do my shrimp look so different??
I certainly don't know more than Mustafa since I just started keeping the shrimps 10 months now. From my observations I see all of the shrimps with white sponge color behind their head go crazy and swimming around really quickly at the same time searching for something. They don't do this often and ...

Re: Why do my shrimp look so different??
The shrimp with the white stuff in their head are the males. The shrimp with the black stuff in their head are the females. Those black things are the eggs.

Re: First Tank
so far I've seen at least 4 or 5 different pregnant females since my May 9th. They all seem to be taking turns 1 at a time it seems. is this normal? It seems like most of these new mothers are dropping the majority of the eggs before they hatch. But after waiting for more than a month, I was surpris...

Re: First Tank
Looking at my tank this evening and I was surprised to find my first berried female since I got the shrimps back in January. Too hard to tell how many eggs she's carrying. How many weeks before they are released? I still have not fed the shrimps anything.

Re: First Tank
They are plastic plants. The only live "plants" that I have are the Macro Algae from Mustafa. The Macro-Algae are doing great. It has increased in size by 3x/4x times since I got them about 4 months ago.

Re: First Tank
The excessive algae growth was probably from the fish pellets that I put into the tank to help with the cycling process. I have not fed the shrimps since I got them. They seem to be doing very well and growing quite large since I got them 6 weeks ago. The macro-algae I got from you has also doubled ...

Re: A new home for old shrimp
When I transferred my shrimps I used the cap of a water bottle to scoop up 1 or 2 at a time. This way I was able to count how many I actually got. It took awhile since I had 80 of them. I would think something hard would work better than something like a net that flops easily and possibly get their ...

Re: A novice with more questions
I used this exact product for my tank when I started the cycle process. I don't know if it sped up the cycle or not, since I still waited until there was visible green algae which took 2 months. I added my shrimps about a month ago and they seem to be doing fine.

Re: First Tank
I cleaned the front of the tank glass. The diatoms (brown algae) stuck to the glass harder than I thought they would. I thought it would easily come off, but i had to use a tooth brush and scrub pretty vigorously. Next time I will be more prepared with a metal algae scraper. But I can finally see in...

Re: First Tank
I have 3 nerites in there. 1x zebra, 1x tiger, and 1x horned nerite plus the 10x MTS from Mustafa in there. I thought 3x nerites would get the job done, because I read from others how they have such a huge appetite, but I think my tank is considerably larger than the typical size tank that others in...

Re: First Tank
Picked up the shrimps from a local reseller. IMG_0027.jpg Getting them acclimated to my tank parameters over 4 hours. After that I transferred 2 into the tank and observed them for about 30 minutes. They were doing fine, so I transferred all of them into the tank. IMG_0018.jpg Shrimps had no problem...

Re: First Tank
I think the aquarium is fully cycled now. Seeing lots of green algae growth now on the gravel and rocks and on the tank glass. Also added in a zebra nerite, tiger nerite, and horned nerite snails. They don't seem to make any amount of dent in the algae growth. I was expecting them to really clean th...

Re: First Tank
The water parameters looks good. Even the pH is looking better better now that I have a few Texas holey rock in there. Looks like it is close to 8.0 instead of 7.4 I was seeing before
