it's been 7 years!
On February 8th, 2017, I received 12 Supershrimp. Alot has happened since then, but my 1-gallon jar is still going strong. I have so many shrimps from the original 12 that I can't count them all. I do feed them occasionally (a small piece of algae wafer) but for the most part they get on all by them...

Re: Oxygen
Just open it for a few minutes each day will be fine. keeping it closed will help eliminate evaporation which is a good thing. Jack

Re: new opea ula owner
So I saw my first berried opae ula on may 11, today july 1st I was asking myself why I haven't seen any larvae. Well guess what? I came home from some family time and as i was ready to turn off the lights, I see larvae. I counted at least 7 so that is so cool and exciting. I have not fed my shrimp a...

Re: new opae ula owner
I have had my Opae for almost three months and today I have seen unusual behavior. Many of my Opae are swimming erratic, swimming in circles, lots of chasing. I also have seen a new molt. I'm thinking berries are on their way. I will keep everyone posted. Jack

combating cynobacteria
I have quite a bit of bluegreen algea that's making the cylinder look very messy. I have had the cylinder set up since Oct. and have had the Opae since Feb. 8th. Do the shrimp eat the cyno? How can I get rid of it when it's best not to do water changes. I also have a horned nirite snail, but it does...

Re: Hermit crabs?
Someone on another forum has a blue legged hermit crab (and a majano anemone) with his supershrimp. He mentions he has lost several crabs while acclimating them to brackish water. He has to feed on a regular bases and also has to do frequent water changes because of it. No way I would risk my shrimp...

Re: Setting up plants for a new tank!
I have read (on other forums) that marimo balls grow so slowly that they have minimal effect on nutrients. You should have plenty of bio film and algae even with the marimo balls. I would let the tank set for several months ( I waited 3 months) before adding shrimp, this will allow it to age some an...

This may sound wierd
Has anyone ever watched their opae ula play and thought, these are what sea monkey's should of been rather then stupid brine shrimp. One can almost see them swim through hoops, with mermaid tails, and castles. Anyway, I can sit for hours watching them play. Jack

Re: Hoping for some advice on cleaning or creating new tank
I use a cheap toothbrush to clean my jar glass. With only three shrimp it should be no problem going up in tank size, that's really up to you. You should have enough good bacteria in the substrate and decorations to have an instint cycle. Jack

Re: new opea ula owner
Well it has been a week sense adding my Opae's. I have seen only one molt but no deaths (Hurray). Today the shrimp had a very exciting day, I added a horned nerite snail and the tank became a frenzy of activity. Tonight everyone has calmed down and went about their business.Until next time, Jack

Re: new opea ula owner
Nothing exciting has happened until today. The little buggers stay hidden a lot but that's to be expected.Today I found my first successful molt so that's good news. I will update when more fun happens. Thanks for looking,Jack
