I also agree with the other comments about not feeding if you have visible patches of algae.

Over feeding pollutes the water and stresses the shrimp.

I would recommend that you add a seashell or piece of coral; that will help prevent the water from going acidic.

My guess is that this gas now making your chaeto float is probably just oxygen produced by the chaeto and by microscopic algae.

What kind of sand do you have? If it's argonite, that's great, but if not, I'd worry about your water going acidic.
