No visible algae is probably due to the tank size. 5 gallons is big in respect to the population of 25 opae. You don't feed much plus you have the macro algae in there taking up much of the nutrients.

Re: How Often To Feed Snails During Cycle?
IMHO I cannot think of not feeding a tank at the beginning. You have pure brackish water and you're looking to cycle it. What better way than to start with freeze dried spirulina powder. The opae or snails can feed on it & create waste which in turn will feed the algae which the opae will feed o...

Re: Breeding issue
Looks good. Nothings wrong. Just need to give them time & patience. The females only breed 1-2x a year max. None are guarantee to breed.

Re: NOOB QUESTION: Brackish Snails, Algae and Cycling
You can. You should also feed the snails something so that they can create waste which in turn will help cycle the tank. You'll need some type of fertilizer(waste) in there to keep your algae alive.

Re: Help-Ammonia in tank
I think that since our tanks don't usually run filtration there's always a chance that levels of ammonia & nitrates will be present.

Re: In need of help
How's your jar doing now? At the very least you can pull your shrimp out and start all over with new water if that's a concern. Also I would remove the egg shell as it's not necessary. If you were keeping FW snails or shrimp I could understand that but for the Opae Ula you don't. I have a quart jar ...

Before & After Pics Of An Algae Covered Rock
So I decided to take apart my half gallon jar. It just sat in back of my tanks and was difficult to view. This algae covered rock was right in the middle of the jar. I decided to stick it in one of my 5 gallon tanks. I guess there was too much algae in the jar but the opae in the tank ate it up. Thi...

Re: Black Aragonite Sand
Always thoroughly wash live sand. More than likely the live bacteria that it offers is more than likely dead. You never know & the "live" part is not required.

Re: Black algae and tank transfer
Very easy solution. Do not use a live sand substrate. If you do it must be thoroughly washed. More than likely the live bacteria has died. Just start all over. If you want to use your decoration just wash them in boiling water. Black algae is not good. What's you regimen for your tank? Food? water?
