Re: Help please! Larvae getting trapped in the brown algae
You should not be using an active substrate, Fort starters that's going to drop your PH a lot lower that what's suggested for Opae Ula. Break it down and start all over.

For starters you should not have that piece of driftwood in there. I would remove it. It's great for FW shrimp tanks but not Opae ULa. Also what type of substrate is that? Looks like an active one.

No, it doesn't matter. Just dump it in.

Re: Is spring water safe for opae ula?
The issues with spring water is it will contain minerals which includes sodium, calcium, magnesium, and potassium. What you get from using a marine salt mix is all you need. Stick with distilled or RO.

Wonder shells work great. That's perfect for the snails.

Re: New addition - Spike Tail Malaysian Trumpet snails
Shells won't help. Maybe keep your ph up. What other forms of calcium do you have?

Re: New addition - Spike Tail Malaysian Trumpet snails
Just a heads up. These snails need a lot of calcium in the water in order to retain theirs shells. Lack of calcium in water will cause their shells to wear away.

Same form of chaeto sold here. Part of it just happens to have thicker strands that seems to grow that way sometimes. I have the same thing. Seems your SG is on the low side. These are the best pics.

Re: Water Refill
How are you going to add it in there? I assume it one of those that are completely sealed if you've had it that long & have never added any water.

Re: java moss question
It is posted here. YOU CANNOT PUT JAVA MOSS IN AN OPAE ULA TANK. The salinity is too high. Yes it can withstand some higher salinity which is considered brackish.

Java fern will just die out and throw off your waters parameters. The salinity is too high for java fern. How new is the set up?
