Yes there are still many shrimp and some snails. The snails seem to die young these days, haven't seen any grow very large in probably a year.

The small chunks of coral were given to me by an aquarium store. Perhaps those are the culprit.

I use distilled water. The setup is a little under a year old.

Is hair algae a problem, or should I just let it grow?

There is a pretty significant growth in the bottom of the tank. I'm not sure if it's beneficial for the shrimp or not. I've lost about 3 sets of babies over the past few months.
