Re: Population Explosion!
Update: summer is over but the breeding hasn’t stopped. The five gallon tank was started December 1, 2017 with 33 shrimp, but one died the first week. As of today, November 12, 2021 (4 years), we have a total of 531 shrimp (number includes the original 32)! I count floaters and assume they all live....

Re: Max Population Acheived
Vorteil any estimate on how many you have in that tank? My tank is a 5 gal. and I have approximately 380 (I keep track of the floaters and assume they all live) with lots more room. There are currently 65 floaters and last night I counted 5 heavily berried females. So they are still expanding their ...

Re: Moss ball update
Attached is the mother and two of the babies circled in red. The babies are so tiny I had to move them up to the front glass so you could sort of see them.
Sliphorn I took your suggestion and removed the growth on the mother, I’m up to four babies now!

Re: Moss ball update
My mother moss ball has a growth on it now. I think I will give it a clip and see how it goes. Thanks for the idea.
Considering there is no noticeable movement in their water it is amazing how much they get around!

Moss ball update
Just wanted to give a quick update on the moss ball I bought from Petshrimp on January 30, 2020. It has remained green and hasn’t seemed to get any bigger in the year I’ve had it BUT there are now at least 3 new babies! :D These little guys are sooo tiny but they are balls. I had noticed one over th...

Re: Breeding
Mine took 1 year, 7 months, 19 days before I saw my first berried female. Then once they started it has been pretty much non-stop since. Good luck

Re: Feeding frenzy
I have a tank with just over a gallon of water that I started with ten shrimp. Was just trying to get a feel for the potential population. I like seeing all the activity.

Re: Population Explosion!
Feb 9 the last of the floaters morphed yesterday. This is the first time since last summer that there are no floaters and no berried females. According to my records there are a total of 292 shrimp (260 babies since August 2019)! It’s great looking in the tank, there are the originals, the year+ shr...

Re: Feeding frenzy
Dch you said this is a 1 gallon tank. There seems to be quite a few shrimp in that tank, do you have any idea how many shrimp there are? I also noticed there were at least two berried shrimp so it must not be at its limit yet. Very nice.

Re: New tank started today - tank #2 (now tank 3)
It’s been a week since the hexagon tank was set up and the water is crystal clear. I moved some of the lava rocks from the bowl over during the week and added a MTS snail. Moved two of the shrimp yesterday and they looked good today so I moved the other 8 and their MTS snail along with some more of ...

Re: New tank started today - tank #2
It’s probably acrylic and in the box is a light, a tiny pump, and thermometer. I remember keeping betta fish in it for several years, then a goldfish or two. Then I think it went into storage. Forgot all about it until a few days ago when I was trying to look into the shrimp bowl and was getting diz...

Re: New tank started today - tank #2
Started tank #3 today. This is going to replace tank #2. The bowl tank has too much distortion to be able to enjoy the shrimp. This became very evident when floaters started to appear. They are basically impossible to observe in the bowl. So the 1 gallon bowl is being replaced with a 1.5 gallon hexa...

Re: New tank started today - tank #2
The female released the first floater today (62 days from when I noticed her being berried). Hard to tell how many she is carrying but it looks to be at least 10. The tank is doing very well, with lots of algae on the glass. I cleaned the front of the glass to make it easier to see the shrimp. I fed...

Re: Can I save my shrimp?
Also anytime anything is moved around in their tank it causes them to loose color and swim around a lot. The filter was removed, water was added, filter reinstalled, each thing could have them loosing color for awhile. Don’t panic, they will settle down. Sorry, I didn’t address the salinity issue. A...

Re: Population Explosion!
Update Saturday morning: count at least four berried females. The house has been cooler recently and the amount of daylight is shrinking each day so not sure if those two things had an effect on the amount of breeding going on. The only other possibility I can think of is that the number of females ...
