Re: Tiniest Molt
i have always ended up with the ghostly transparent remains at the bottom of the tank for me to clean up but i have recently caught one of my females molt just before she berried and only then did it realize why i never catch them molting more often.... ITS FAST! she wiggled a bit to break the skin ...

Re: Is my chaeto completely dead?
maybe get the parameters of the water checked before doing anything first... i'm fairly new to the shrimp hobby (almost a year now) but I'm a pretty good indoor/outdoor gardener and like Varanus/Mustafa said, pulling a "rising from the dead" garbage is a thing plants do from time to time. ...

Re: white worms: friend or foe?
i found a worm ..... so they found a way to survive in the gravel  just saw it dart out and swam back under, might have been feeding off of whatever algae grew directly from the shrimp poop down there? w/e... couldn't just lay down and die on the bright side one of my berried shrimp just gave...

Re: white worms: friend or foe?
As far as I'm aware the larvae don't actually eat until they take on the form of tiny shrimp. However the larvae do seem more fragile/sensitive than the metamorphosed shrimp, so perhaps this plant-killing light did somehow cause them stress that led to their deaths. may be? there is no info on this...

Re: Fishing Line in Tank - For Decor?
if they don't know what it is, its because the original makers were poor and used clear nail polish or wood varnish. literally anything they can get there hands on for cheap. you have to remember that these people are poor and are just trying to make a living, they comb the shore for small or broken...

Re: white worms: friend or foe?
The only thing I can think of is that your light is emitting enough UV radiation to affect the shrimp. :smt102 so i have done some research on this light in particular and on any related topics and found that as far as this light in particular this has had bad reviews. so this light is actual garba...

Re: high tank or low tank?
i have a small tank at 8 inch cube but and i find my shrimp swimming in all four corners of the tank, they like to do back flips and skim the top. might help that one of the decor reaches almost the top of the tank on one corner and the moss ball i bought from this site floats. i don't think your go...

Re: New tank algae
this was highly discouraged but i actually had the same thought when i started with my tank and found that i can add plants to encourage natural "life cycle" and also found that Marimo moss balls can live in brackish water. i had 1 Marimo ball so after a small acclamation period, i put it ...

Re: white worms: friend or foe?
*That* is probably the culprit. Just changing lights or even removing all lights won't cause a sudden die off like the one you're describing. Something got into your tank...be it toxic fumes or dust or chemicals during your renovation. In any case, how are things going now? I hope you did a 80-90% ...

Re: Lighting for Macroalgae
hi there ! so i posted about this on a topic i started called "white worms: friend or foe?" but basically i had my tank mooching off my terrarium light when it started out and algae grew like mad! there were two 800 lumen LED light bulbs on a plug-in socket/extension cord in a homemade lig...

Re: Fishing Line in Tank - For Decor?
so, I'm no "expert" but make sure its fishing line from a fishing store as i would advise against the clear thread sold in craft stores, that stuff for sure will leach something. should really talk to an aquarium shop, one that deals with salt water critters and /or shrimps. i remember peo...

Re: white worms: friend or foe?
Let us know how they fare in your tank. With the restricted food regime in Supershrimp tanks they shouldn't last too long or at least not grow in population size, but you never know. Did you use live rock or something? Trying to figure out how they may have been introduced. So, it’s been a while si...

Re: white worms: friend or foe?
Yes, they do look like tiny planaria, but planaria are supposed to be very sensitive to salt. Are they still in the tank? yep, they're still in the tank... and seem to be only found on the top 1/4 of the tank and like to feed on algae on the glass. i kept watch on them to see any interesting behavi...
