Re: Pale anxious shrimp ):

They do go nearly translucent when stressed, usually they'll bounce back to red within a short amount of time once the stressor has passed. It wouldn't be completely out of the question for the fly to have brought something into the tank. You gotta remember they basically live on shi*, so all the n...

Re: Pale anxious shrimp ):

I wanted to add I have a big snail in here that is also unusually mobile, crawling up and down the tank since this episode started.

Re: Pale anxious shrimp ):

More info: maybe the fly released ammonia when I picked it up. But I feel like the prime would have resolved that. maybe the shrimp have had enough of being in the same water for four years? Should I do a 50% change or will that just stress them even more? I scooped out whatever food I could manage....

Pale anxious shrimp ):

Hi I have a 2.2 gal tank with 4 ecosphere rescues & lots of mustafa’s snails that are almost 4 years old. In the four years i’ve had the tank, I have done very little. Just top off the water and throw in some fish food like once every 6 months. Really I just did it to free them from the ecospher...

Re: Lots of questions

Hey all. I think my tank is about four years old at this point, it is an ecosphere tank with four shrimps in it. Originally I set it up with Mustafa's algae. That algae seemed to grow/become hair algae so I separated it with the help of this forum's advice. Well now it seems all my algae has become ...

Re: Almost ready to order shrimp

If you're worried about your shrimp having a food source, the general idea is that if you have cycled your tank for a month and it has a good source of light you should be fine. If you ordered your macroalgae from mustafa it will have lots of good bacteria that will help cycle your tank. When I init...

Re: HELP!!! Shrimp swimming on side?

Oh sorry for double post but I fully agree about the natural light. It seems way better for the shrimp, temperature control and algae growth if you live somewhere with enough light. And yes, mix your salt measure your salinity and add it to your tank with sand and the eggshell!

Re: HELP!!! Shrimp swimming on side?

Hi, any updates on your shrimp? Did you set up a hospital tank? Hi there! I did the 90% water change like Mustafa suggested. I've been testing the water everyday. There is still ammonia in the tank, so I've been doing 50% water changes every other day. The sick shrimp is still alive. He can still m...

Re: Safe to transport?

Hey there! So I'm a brand new Shrimp owner, and am part of the ecosphere-not-so-good club. I'm gonna be setting up my new tank this afternoon and getting it ready for my shrimp when I order them. I would like them to be a part of my work since I work at a Cardiology office. I think it would be real...

Re: Tank cleaning?

If it’s consistently year round, I wouldn’t get a heater. My 3 gal I have a small heater. My house gets to the low 50s during the winter. Hey!! Thank you for the reply but i didn’t mention temp, maybe you replied to the wrong one or misread it. i was worried about my super old eggshell. thanks eith...

Re: Tank cleaning?

Okay, I will post some pics when I get a chance... I do not think that light green algae is hair algae, but I would appreciate a link to your youtube video should I ever need it. I do live in florida so the tank gets a lot of natural light. I forgot to mention, my source of calcium is an eggshell. I...

Tank cleaning?

Hi, I have a tank that is almost three years old with 4 shrimp that were freed from an ecosphere. The tank has a lava rock, the algae that mustafa sells, sand, and an eggshell for calcium. Oh I also bought ten snails from mustafa that have since made dozens of babies. I have never cleaned, or done a...

Re: Hospital tank/cleaning dirty water

As long as you don't clean anything with untreated tap water, the water change should do the trick. Just don't let things dry out or the bacteria on them will die. Just don't overdo the cleaning and make sure you preserve as much of the biofilm on things as possible. Do you still just have the same...

Hospital tank/cleaning dirty water

Hi everyone, it has been about two years since I established my tank with four ecosphere shrimp. Unfortunately, my tank has an opening and over time some dust has gotten into the tank. I try to clean it with my net occasionally when I top the water off. Well, I have to move my tank to a new table so...
