I took out all the rocks and shells that it was growing on and put them in boiling water and scrubbed them with a clean brush. Also did some partial water changes over time. It seems to have done the trick. Good luck.

It's best to keep it simple and just follow Mustafa's instructions on this site. He probably knows more about keeping opae ulas than anybody in the world.

You could increase their home in stages by slowly adding water from your other tank to their own water a bit at a time (and replenishing the tank water a bit at a time, with the right salinity of course). I think the barnacle shells should be enough. As far as I understand, you don't need a huge amount of calcium carbonate to get the buffering benefits for your tank.

That looks cool! I love sphere tanks. My second tank is a sphere -- 5 gallons, glass. It was originally a beverage dispenser. I'm currently cycling it. It has visible algae and snails, so the shrimp are going in pretty soon.

Snails go in first, is what I've always heard. They help the tank cycle and get the water better prepared for the shrimp.
