Your tanks look great! I remember what it was like waiting for the tank to cycle. It makes it so satisfying when you can finally add the shrimp!

Re: No longer lurking
Mustafa: not only are the babies from August doing well, but in March I had 3 berried shrimp! It is so nice seeing them bob around in the tank. I tried to get a picture of the newest babies and the juveniles as I’m sure you like knowing the shrimp you once cared for are happy and healthy.

Re: 4 gallon Bio Orb Crystal Looking Ball
Regarding the moss balls I recall reading another member with the same concern. It’s nothing to worry about, your moss balls are just fine. The oxygen they have produced via photosynthesis is caught inside causing the floating.

Re: Finally!
Congratulations!! I had a similar situation, my two egged is still holding on to hers and the one with the large clutch just had her babies. Honestly I was fascinated watching her swim while keeping all those eggs secured under her tail.
Many wishes for more berries in your future!

Re: No longer lurking
So I came into work today to a wonderful sight: shrimp babies!! :smt007 Since I just noticed the mama this month she must have been hiding earlier on. I noticed a second berried female on July 12th, but when I returned from vacation on the 22nd she had dropped all but 3 eggs. Today she is down to 2....

Re: Starting the opae journey!
Hmm as far as if they are happy you should start to tell what colors they normally are. Being paler than normal is the only thing I’ve read on this forum that *may* indicate that the shrimp are stressed and unhappy. I say may because mine were pale and zooming around but it was likely due to males c...

Re: No longer lurking
I have a new date to add to my tank timeline: July 2nd I noticed my first berried shrimp!! I am so jazzed right now!! :-D So that makes it a total of 85 days (12 weeks and 1 day) from introducing the shrimp to the tank to my first shrimp mama. I’m beginning to think I fed them when I didn’t need too...

Re: Open Ecosystem
Sorry that you didn’t find a deterrent in time, thankfully you only have 4. I agree with sliphorn that the current amount is far too small. While they could probably survive for a while they will be slowly starving to death. There isn’t enough room to grow enough algae to sustain them, and to compen...

Re: Starting the opae journey!

5 gallons is a decent size tank. How many shrimp are you planning on starting with? Are you getting snails?

Re: No longer lurking
Mustafa: darn, I was hoping I got lucky! Honestly the range of colors from white/pale pink to crimson. I think my mossball is budding. I<3Opae: yes I have seen more molts, the most recent being today! Most of the little guys seem to like molting on the sea fan. I saw one swimming mid molt but wasn’t...

So glad that your shrimp arrived safely and have settled in! Is the algae level keeping more to your liking with this tank?

Re: No longer lurking
The order of shrimp arrived April 6th and I was able to add them to the tank on April 8th, about 4 days after I noticed a speck of green algae! So my timeline for this tank was: January 14th was the day the tank was set up. April 4th was the day I noticed a spot of algae, approximately 10 days after...

Re: Tank Trois!
Happy to hear that the long wait is over! How many shrimp did you order? If I don’t see any algae when I get in to the office tomorrow then I’ll put in a tiny speck of fish food in the tank; especially seeing how it fixed your algae problem!

Re: No longer lurking
How's your tank 03amida? Are the moss ball and snails doing well? :D The mossball is still a nice green color and as far as I can tell the snails are doing well. They seem to like the ridges the shell has as I saw 3 of them on it at the same time. Varanus: thank you for the tip! I will put a smidge...

Re: No longer lurking
Varanus: Thank you for the confirmation! I thought I had biofilm since there was an almost oily look to the surface of the water. Good to know the snails have stuff to snack on. :D I<3Opae: I will make sure the snails are still happy and active for two weeks. As long as I see them snacking away I wi...
