Re: Shrimp Eating Calcium Carbonate Pebbles?
Oh, you're probably right that they are just eating the biofilm off of it haha. Weird though that they would take it with them haha. Silly shrimp. And hey Dch48, if you can see algae you're fine! haha. No need to feed extra. Some would even say that my feeding once a month is too much :P I'd just le...

Shrimp Eating Calcium Carbonate Pebbles?
Hey! So the shrimp are doing great, I now have had several berried females and lots of babies! The tank doesn't have any visible algae like some of your wonderful tanks on here, but the shrimp are always picking on the rocks and substrate, so I assume they are getting something! Plus I feed one flak...

Re: 1st Berried Shrimp! What to expect?
I counted about 17 babies, and I see a shrimp that has some eggs so I'm not sure if its another berried shrimp or mamma with some leftover eggs. How many days do you think it takes for them to fully drop them all? :) And yeah! Crazy, I was so surprised haha. I originally had the higher temps because...

Re: 1st Berried Shrimp! What to expect?
So I was checking on mamma Opae today, and I got concerned because it looked like she was holding her eggs away from her body, I was sure she was gonna drop them they looked so precarious! But, because I was looking so close at the glass to see her eggs, I noticed that I have 4 little baby shrimp ju...

Re: 1st Berried Shrimp! What to expect?
Aww I hope the mamma shrimp does well! Anything I can do to make sure she keeps them? Sounds like I'll just have to keep an eye out haha since I assume it would be hard to tell if they've hatched or if she's dropped them until they've grown a little. Lets just hope for more berried females in the fu...

Re: Black Algae Growth okay? No green algae?
The tank is doing great! The rocks I've flipped over have stayed their orange color and haven't gone black, so I'm not sure what caused the rocks to do that in the first place. Maybe it was because of the PH? I recently bought some new shrimp (around 12) and I spotted my first berried shrimp last we...

Re: Black Algae Growth okay? No green algae?
Okay, so I had to move desks at work so I figured it was a good time to do the water change. I mixed up the new water, and after adding and letting the tank sit for a day or so before testing, the PH is now at 8.2. Yay! Now that everything seems stable I'm going to buy some more shrimp and we'll see...

How many shrimp do you recommend for breeding?
Hello! So I have two ecosphere survivors that have been in a 3 gallon tank for several months now, and I'm looking to get some new friends for them. With the tank being 3 gallons, I know I can have quite a few in there and would love to have them breed over time! Supershrimp are quite expensive with...

Re: Black Algae Growth okay? No green algae?
Okay, my salinity is at 1.009 now, will doing a 50% water change with new brackish water add to that? Should I mix up a brackish mix with less salinity to account for that?
Sorry for all the questions haha.

Re: Black Algae Growth okay? No green algae?
Alright, substrate has been changed out. The tank is still a little cloudy because of the change, but the shrimp are already turning red again. :) They're out exploring. (also, I tried scrubbing the rocks and a little bit of black residue came off, but it seems like the rocks are stained. (so i thin...
