They are probably fine. Snails do that.

Re: Marimo balls prefer brackish water?

Harry wrote: Fri Feb 03, 2023 6:52 am I have read that Marimo moss balls prefer brackish water. The article I read also says to add salt to freshwater if the Marimo ball gets brown spots. I am hoping this is correct.
..
Marimo balls will decay over time in brackish water. They are not suitable for an opae ula shrimp tank.

Re: Snails dead, but shrimp are fine.

I put the snails and shrimp in the tank about the same time, r roughly a week ago. The snails were very active, clinging to the glass and moving around surprisingly fast. Today I noticed I don't see one snail moving. (I had 10). My shrimp seem to be unaffected and ate behaving normal. Any idea what...

Re: How to best introduce new brackish snails to my shrimp bowl…

I couldn’t find any specific instructions to putting my new snails in my established tank. Do I a) pour a little tank water into the plastic bag bit by bit, b) put one snail in and wait to see if he survives, or c) let the bag float in the bowl for a few hours before dumping them all in? image.jpg ...

Re: Whats the best LED for an 20oz, Opae Ula Shrimp aquarium.

I bought a 20oz, Opae Ula Shrimp aquarium. Has'nt shipped yet, but I want to find the perfect LED, so algae can grow and not starve the shrimp. I dont get sun in my room, so I dont know what the best LED would work. .. 20 ounces is too small. Way too small. A quart jar is the absolute minimum. Some...

Re: Trumpet snails?

Hello, I have trumpet snails. It is advisable to introduce trumpet snails to the shrimp tank? I am afraid the snail population may exploded and cause ammonia spike in my 30cm x 30cm x 45cm tank. Note that the snails are accustomed to brackish water. Thank you. .. Add them. They are self regulating....

HI! I would like to try to build my own shrimp habitat. I have a .9 gallon enclosure (just under a gallon) I would like to keep Opae Ula shrimp. With my size tank, how many can I get. I was also thinking about putting two or three cherry shrimp on there for variety (I know that they don't live long...

Re: Hello from Singapore

It's been 4 years. My shrimp population never really grow for the past 4 years and it went down from 15 to around 7 or 8 after a year. Hasn't been touching the tank for a long time and now the surface had loads of algae but I left it be. To my surprise recently I saw small dots floating near the su...

Why? I always use a calcium source in all 13 of my tanks and they are healthy and actively breeding. It is recommended by Mustafa.

Re: Is temperature a concern when measuring Salinity?

Hi, I am new to keeping Opae Ulu shrimp. So fortunate to stumble into this amazing community. I also did something horribly wrong setting up my new tank by using aquarium salt instead of marine/reef salt. Thank to the forum moderater who explained in the step by step setup. I have a refractor to re...

I do not see a calcium source in the tank, unless the mixed quartz is. It is needed for buffering. A chunk of cuttle bone works well as do crushed egg shells.

Re: Tiny white floating things?/feeding question

A few more pics of mystery things in my tank, though they are poor quality. I will try to describe - one is a shiny brown worm looking thing. I might just be trippin because it looks like it could just be substrate?? But I hadn’t noticed any in that shape before so I wasn’t sure… The other was what...
