Re: 4 gallon Bio Orb Crystal Looking Ball
My shrimp also seem to like skimming along just under the biofilm on the water surface. Fun to watch

Great looking tank -- it is so green! Really liked the video of the baby shrimp. Your babies arrived so quickly after your tank started!

Wow! That's a totally thriving tank. Can you give more details about how you maintain the tank (feeding, light, etc). Along with the multiplying Opae, the tank looks very green / lush.

Nice looking tank! The shrimp look really active. I like how there are two distinct "environments" in the tank.

Re: My beginner Opa Ulae experience
The shrimp are overall doing great! These shrimp are so low maintenance. I pretty much don't do anything except give a small flake of food every 2 weeks or so, and add deionized water when the water level gets noticeably lower. The shrimp are active and fun to watch. In my 2.5 gallon tank, there hav...

I've read that driftwood is not good for Opa Ulae since tannins from the wood can decrease the pH. Probably the driftwood should be removed, or you should monitor the pH.

Re: My beginner Opa Ulae experience
My other 2.5 gallon tank has been cycling for 3 weeks -- no algae yet but I felt bad for the 2 shrimp in my teeny vase to be stuck in their tiny place . I ended up just putting the entire little vase into the 2.5 gallon tank. Hopefully the contents of the vase will help cycle the bigger tank, and wi...

Re: My beginner Opa Ulae experience
I freaked out. Two nights ago the shrimp were all gathered on the glass near the top of the jar. Then yesterday morning they were all at the very top of the jar just below the water surface, upside down. I then saw two entangled shrimp slowly float down to the bottom of the jar, sort of sluggish. Fi...

Re: My beginner Opa Ulae experience
These guys really change color fast. The shrimp were much redder when I woke up this morning. Then the LED light went on and they became distinctly less red after like 3 minutes. Later in the morning they regained some of their red color. Then I took out the green yarn that had been in their shippin...

Re: My beginner Opa Ulae experience
You were right, Super Jess. I saw a molt just several hours after releasing the shrimp. But then the molt was gone a couple hours after that. LOL! I guess they are hungry? I know I need to hold off on feeding, but there really isn't much in the way of algae in the tank. Just the thinnest layer of bi...

Re: My beginner Opa Ulae experience
You were right! Within a few hours, many of my shrimp became pink or light red in color. They are a range from clear to light red to yellow. Very cool! They also seem a lot calmer now. It was hard to take a picture of them initially since they were so active. Some pics below.

Re: My beginner Opa Ulae experience
Thanks for everyone's advice. The greenish tinge on the rock looks like algae to me, but hard to be sure. Anyway, we released the bag of shrimp and all bag contents, including the green yarn, into the 1 gallon jar. Hopefully the shrimp will be OK! Strangely, though the shrimp looked reddish while in...
