That is how crayfish madness starts! Don't go there! It is the DARK SIDE! that's fascinating! I can totally see where you're coming from. I'm on the verge of crayfish - even got a second tank just waiting. But I can never find the Dwarf crayfish in my area. They're all either those blue crays (with...

I am just wondering what kind of sponge you use for the canister filter intake to reduce the stronger water flow...the current seems to upset the shrimp tank...unless you have a large size tank... It's an actual sponge I picked up the LFS just for this purpose. The holes are simply not large enough...

Missing or Dead shrimp?
Okay, I feel silly posting about this. I recently decided to redo my shrimp tank (since I lost all my shrimp in a move a year ago). So I picked up 15 from a great site ;) It's been close to two weeks since they've been in the tank. Outside of when I introduced them to the tank - I haven't seen much ...

Badflash, Good idea. I'll see if I can find someplace cheap to test the water from the tank. I'm pretty sure my substrate and other items in the tank aren't leeching anything. They've all been in there such a loong time with very thriving shrimp that I simply assume it's got to be something due to t...

Switch to Amquel+ or Seachem Prime. These are the most effective againsts chloramine and heavy metals. I've never heard about potasium being a problem. Ahh the internet is a wonderful place http://www.ci.madison.wi.us/water/Documents/202321_03.p1.pdf Antimony 1.7 ppb Arsenic .002 ppm barium .052ppm...

Red Cherry Shrimp Dieoff and potassium
Hey everyone. I got a mystery and I'm very very bummed out:( I got a bunch of red cherries and they thrived very well in my 10G (all I have space Would LOVE a 20) tank. It was heavily planted, sandy bottom, and was a very established -well maintenanced tank. I had no problems for many months... Then...

Lights pose a fire risk... i know I know they're probably not incadescent, but that's dorm policy for you. I know for 10 days your plants will be fine, the shrimp will be fine. You will lose some algae growth with little to no light for 10 days, but you won't kill it all off. It will slow it down im...

Dual question: Extended Leave * Moving - Water quality
I've been very careful with my water quality. I had a phosphate bloom (my idiot brother dumped 1/4 of my food in the back corner and I did not see it to clean it up, talk about over feeding) not too long ago so I have been doing 20% water changes almost every week (between 1 and 1.5 weeks) in order ...

I have a experience in fish tanks in the dorm. Depending on your college you may not be allowed to have anything bigger than a 5G tank (Which would stil be an improvment over your 2.5). If you have the desk/dresser drawer space there is some things you can do to increase the waterflow (and in some c...
