Re: Population Explosion!
Vorteil, I just purchased a 5 gallon tank and plan to set it up next week. I plan to get some more shrimp shortly and keep my original tank separate. For a larger tank do you need to do some aeration in the tank or is it still good to skip that? I’d like to eventually get some of the small crabs but...

Re: Population Explosion!
Joe, how large is your tank? I have had 3 females this summer get berried. One dropped all of them in the Macro algae which I later removed, one carried 2 to full term and the third one is heavily berried.my tank only holds 21 shrimp as of now and it’s a glass jar. Wondering if a larger environment ...

Re: Population Explosion!
That’s awesome. Since I raised my temp I have seen a bunch of molts. One was right in front of me. I noticed they swarm around afterward and so I hope this means I’ll be seeing some babies soon. Not sure if related to the increase in temp or the fact I have dimmed the lights on the tank. Will have t...

Re: New Neighbors
I feed mine once every week with no problem. Water is crystal clear and shrimp love it.

Re: snails & a few other newb inquiries
It looks good. Maybe get more shrimp to help eat the algae? For decorations you could get a small castle and some lava rocks. They like to hide in the nooks and crannies.

Re: Casualties :(
Can you post a picture of the tank that’s having issues? Odds are something in it is causing the deaths. I had a couple die on me when I put a sea fan in their tank. I think they were eating something on it that killed them. After removing it, no more deaths. So as pretty as some items are they prob...

Re: Population Explosion!
I found a small enough heater with a thermostat and will start to test that theory shortly. Right now my office is at 70 and I’ll probably set the tank at 75 degrees Fahrenheit for a couple of weeks to see if that has any effect. If that doesn’t work I’ll try raising it to 78 for a couple weeks. Que...

Re: Population Explosion!
I think I’m going to look into it and maybe do an experiment and see if raising the temp promotes breeding. My shrimps are mature now but haven’t seen any breeding though I have seen the molts. Will be interesting to try anyway. The challenge will be to find a small enough heater with a thermostat f...

Re: Population Explosion!
So does the higher water temp promote breeding then? Wonder if I need to add a heater? I keep my house temp around 68 to 70 degrees year round. Any thoughts on this?

Re: 0.50 Ammonia, 0 nitrites, 10ppm nitrates after cycle?
Is there anything Alive in the tank now? If not, I’d drain, it clean it, then fill it with distilled water wait a week or 2. Then add shrimp, along with the water they came in. Make sure to let the water the shrimp are in equals the tank water temp before adding them. You will need to feed them week...

Re: Our Petshrimp Project
I wouldn’t use the algae tablet as it probably has a bunch of stuff in it that will produce excess waste. I’d stick to just the spiralina powder. The water should clear up after a bit.

Wow that’s a lot of macro algae. Is there anything you shouldn’t do when trimming it back?

Re: Do I need to cycle if transferring everything to a new tank?
I didn’t cycle my tank when I first set it up. I just fed the shrimp every couple days till the algae was taking off. No issues at all. I did make sure the tank water was the same temp as the water the shrimps were in so they didn’t suffer any shock.
