Wow, one of my remaining shrimp is holding bright green eggs again. Either they like me, or they breed very, very easily. These eggs look less mature than the last female that carried, so I've caught on a bit earlier in the process. Guess I'll give it the old college try (accumulate great debt, real...

Wow, I had never heard of this. Here I thought that I had researched the whole shrimp matter at length before purchasing. My tank is up to its eyeballs in crypts and anbuiases. I had 7 in there until just this month, when I started to see deaths in there. I haven't found a cause, yet. I know one was...

That's too cool. :D I think my big decision to help with the ghost shrimps... is to leave off changing the substrate until the whole egg thing is done with. *laugh* It's a heavily planted tank, and I know there's detris in there. It's going to take me ages to hand wash 30 pounds of sand for a 1"...

Curious: Shrimp out of water?
So, I'm fish sitting, at the moment. A small tank with 2 ghost shrimps and 1 betta. While sitting across the room, I noticed the betta chasing the shrimp. The shrimp suddenly lept from the water, and landed with a little wet sound on the side of the bowl -- didn't make it to the top, as the water le...

A search on this forum and a search on http://www.plantgeek.com both seem rather reassuring, as far as plant weight toxicity is concerned.

Driftwood adds tannins to the water, which has a tendancy to 'soften' the water. This is either bad, good, neutral, or downright desirable, depending on who lives in the tank. I boiled mine for around 8 hours, to lessen the amount of tannins released. Despite 8 hours boiling time each, I still had s...

Actually, 'lead' weights aren't really made out of dangerous leads anymore. If they are, and I'm wrong...weeell, my own shrimps have been damned for ages. I believe they're made of zinc, now-a-days, and a couple other less dangerous (inert) metals. If you're still tweaked about the affair, w...

Mine have molted several times since I got them, and I've never seen any of them actually go white before they did that. I'm not saying they don't, it's probably that they are hiding as soon as they feel molt-y. Once, I saw a shrimp casually walking along, rip off its own face and begin to eat it. *...

The arm-band thing, yeah, I've noticed some of my shrimps have them, and some don't. If it's a gender thing, that'd explain it. I've also noticed some of my other banded shrimps have green bits on top of their bodies, but I didn't connect the dots until what you just said. My shrimps been getting bu...

That's pretty cool. The only microfood I can locate, locally is 'fry food', and brine shrimp eggs (I hatch them). I've been doing some casual study, just in case I suddenly change my mind and realize that I want to breed my shrimps way sooner than I had intended. I do have an empty 5g sitting around...

Yep, sounds like I can't pull it off, this time. It's interesting, though, to see her wandering around flipping her swimmerettes. She doesn't do it all the time, but a good lot of the time she does. I'm glad my shrimps are enjoying their stay in that tank. I mean, I knew they were having a good time...

I have eggs! Ghost shrimp
Horray, I think. One of my ghost shrimp has a whole messload of bright green eggs in her swimmerettes. I'm almost tempted to try and keep them. I went to go feed my otocinclus some blanched romaine lettuce, and she emerged, swimmerttes franticaly flipping to keep eggs in place, before hiding again u...
