Brackish Water Snail in RO Water?

Hi All, Would a brackish water snail die if I put it in a small freshwater mossball jar or would it acclimate to the new water? The jar is overgrown with algae on the the glass and I was thinking about stealing one or two of the snails from my Opae Ula tank to see if they can clean up the jar a bit....

Re: Snail Population Problem?

No, I'm not at all sure. I have no idea why I called them nerites. They are the brackish water snails from the shop.

Snail Population Problem?

Hi All, I have 2 x 2.5 gallon tanks with 30 shrimp in one and 40 shrimp in the other. Each tank also had 10 nerite snails for cycling purposes. The shrimp seem happy but have not reproduced yet. The snails on the other hand are going nuts. I now have at least 20 snails in each tank ... their populat...

Molt or dead shrimp?

Hi forum experts, happy Friday! I received my shrimpies on Wednesday and they all looked great. This morning I either woke up to molt or carnage and would like to figure out which it is. Since the shape seems to be cracked right behind the head, I thought maybe one of the dudes just grew out of his ...

Just use the contact form and send an inquiry. The forum isn't going to know much about your order.

How Often To Feed Snails During Cycle?

Hi All, I now have a small macroalgae ball and 10 snails in my new tank and I'm waiting for it to cycle/grow algae. I received advice in this forum to feed the snails because there won't be any food in the new tank, so I added a blanched piece of spinach for 24 hours and then removed what was left o...

Re: New Tank Setup, Please Review

JennyPenny, how about vinegar to clean the rocks? I realized from the pictures of the lava rocks that there is some dirt and old moss or grass attached to them. If I shouldn't boil them, maybe scrub really well and then bathe in vinegar? Thanks again for your help. The problem with cleaning lava ro...

Re: New Tank Setup, Please Review

Welcome. Skip air stones in salt water. The splash will dry up as a crusty mess and look unsightly. Enjoy your pet shrimp. Thanks for the advice PhilipS. I do not have nor plan top use air stones. I just have the air hose to drip-acclimate the shrimp with water from my tank. A process I have now be...

Re: New Tank Setup, Please Review

Something happened to my first post, so I will try again. Luckily I didn't have to type this out twice, haha. :D It is good that you have put a lot of thought and effort into setting this up to ensure success. I set up my first tank five years ago when my son was three, and we have loved watching t...

Re: New Tank Setup, Please Review

.. The eco complete substrate is mostly aragonite and will provide all the pH buffer you need. It also has live bacteria which may cause problems. I would rinse it in very hot water to rid it of the bacteria as much as possible. Or you can buy a small amount of plain old aragonite from an aquarium ...

New Tank Setup, Please Review

Hi All, Happy New Year! I think I should have all my parts together for my first shrimp nano tank on Tuesday, when my little shrimp cube arrives. Since I am new to this, I was wondering if a more experienced user could do a “once-over” to see if I planned everything correctly to be successful in cre...
