Re: Transferring Eco- sphere shrimp
That's awesome! It's a nice piece of decoration, I just couldn't tell if it was real wood or not. I'm sure the shrimp will be happy in there!

Re: Transferring Eco- sphere shrimp
You should be able to transfer them, and the macro algae, fine as long as the target tank's parameters aren't significantly different. Make sure you have the correct brackish salt level. That looks like real driftwood in the larger cube, if it is, it should go. Driftwood will leech out all kinds of ...

Re: 11 year old Shrimpie is upside down, looking for advice
So sorry to hear about shrimpie. In the future, yea, one of the better ways to put down a sick aquatic is to put them in the freezer. 11 years is a solid run, and I can imagine how you'd feel, even if it's "just" a little invertebrate. I truly feel for you. If you're not too put off by it,...

Re: Newby seeking advice
Question: Macroalgae grew and changed overtime, should it take it out and get a new one? Not sure what that means except maybe "the macroalgae has grown like a weed"? It's safe to remove some, it'll grow back, just be careful of hitchhiking shrimp or snails on what you remove. If you mean...

Re: Help requested: salinity
Salt doesn't evaporate. As the water evaporates, the salt in the water remains the same amount, which increases the percentage of salt to water, i.e. the salinity goes up a little. When you add more RO water, there is no salt in it, which will then reduce the percentage of salt to water, i.e. the sa...

Re: Just build my new 1 gallon jar
Do you have a link to the jar? I don't know what the forum policy is on sending people to places they might buy stuff, but that is a lovely little combo.

Re: Brackish water plants?
Do be aware that mangroves are trees that live under full sun and not little aquarium plants. They may grow out-of-hand rather quickly.

Re: Just build my new 1 gallon jar
It looks neat! What kind of light is it that it attaches to the top of the jar like that? Custom or did you find a set somewhere? I'd love to have one of those!

Re: Beginner, needs advice
Is that decoration resin or plastic or actual wood? Resin/plastic should be ok, but if it's driftwood or some other kind of real wood, and depending on what the green stuff is that's on it, it's gonna get funky and leak out tannins that will change your water chemistry and is probably not something ...

Re: Can the RO water come from an in-home RO system/tank
Make sure it's truly R/O and not "softened" or some other kind of resin filter. If you're sure it's R/O then yep, it's good to go.

Re: Tiny white floating things?/feeding question
Unfortunately, too little data to really say. Where did the water come from initially? If it was distilled water with salt added, you're probably just seeing bits of salt and/or biological fluff floating about. If they don't move in little jerky doots, they're probably not copepods, which would be h...

Re: suitable tankmtes for the Opae Ula?
I've had guppies before, aside from them not being brackish fish and likely would quickly die, they are surprisingly vicious and would probably destroy your shrimp before they inevitably died.

Re: "White color morph" with yellow eggs on state flyer?
Yeah, that one is definitely a mutation. It's not the same mutation as our orange or neon-yellow ones. I isolated a white mutation also, but my white mutation has snow-white eggs, they look like snowballs. I'm in the process of building a colony as we speak. Holy cow, color me excited! (Pun intende...

Re: "White color morph" with yellow eggs on state flyer?
Looks like an "albino" or "leucistic" form. I don't know much about that trait in shrimp, but in other animals and plants you can get a mutation that prevents the gene for red color generation from working. "Albino" and "leucistic" are different mutations, &qu...

Re: Cloud layer?
Very nice jar and glad to see you finally got your weird cloud layer thing worked out! The only thing I would say is that, going with something Mustafa said to me with a similar photo, that chaeto could probably be reduced by a good 80% to give algae and other biofilm to build up for everyone. As he...
