Re: Calcium rocks

Great news, I'll increase the amount when I grow the tank next year. Thanks kindly!

Calcium rocks

I've had my calcium rocks purchased from Mustafa in my tank for about a year. Does the effect of these rocks wear off over time or are they always "good" and do not require replacing? I've got a 6.5 gallon tank with about 6 gallons of water with 20ish of the rocks piled in a corner. I've b...

Fire glass

I want to liven up my tank after I move with some color. I thought about lava rocks, but then came across the glass that is used in those smaller fire pits for color. I would think that glass wouldn't be harmful since the aquarium is glass, but I wanted to see if anyone has had any positive or negat...

Moving

I am looking at my first (and last) move with my shrimp. I currently have ~50+ from tiny babies to full sized ~2 year olds with ~20 snails in a 6.5 gallon tank. I've never moved aquariums before, and this thing even at only 6 gallons is heavy. What methods have others had success with in moving tank...

Re: Killing macroalgae

Not the stuff Mustafa sells, it's that macro that they put in the tiny Shrimp Bubble kits. Slightly better than the Ecosphere one's in that the top is removable. I keep pulling it out and tossing it in the trash, but it breaks easily and one single little strand gets left behind it becomes a tuft in...

Killing macroalgae

Does anyone know of a safe way to kill off all macro algae in a populated tank? I made the mistake of keeping it as I upgraded tanks from my original Ecosphere and now it just keeps coming back from a tiny part that I miss. Every week I'm pulling out huge chunks of it with no end in sight. I want to...

Re: Clutched for 2 months?

As it turns out, my shrimp mamas were gaslighting me. Turned out that I had 4 preggers swimming around, but they were playing tag team and only showing 2 at a time. I've now got ~50 floaters that appeared over night so they're dropping berries by the bushel now. Still have at least 1 with a full clu...

Clutched for 2 months?

So I have 2 pregnant Opae that have been in the clutch phase for 2 months. They were noticeable on 14 April, and yet I have only 8 that are in the larval stage. Both of the moms are still swimming around with giant clutches in their chamber. Is this normal activity for first time moms?

Re: Dust algae

I pulled the macro algea out, now they're only getting all the green stuff from the rocks and the algea on the glass and substrate. Snails are doing a fantastic job, I love watching them eat and move around.

Re: Dust algae

I’ve been creating a new tank for my friend and in the last week have noticed a dark Kelly Green algae growing everywhere. Is this dust algae? I had it near a plant with a grow light so I’ve turned that lamp off but it’s still spreading. That actually looks like a certain type of cyanobacteria. The...

Re: Dust algae

Six very large snails and two visible babies now. The algea in some places has morphed into what looks like hair algea, so I may have both. I've done bleach treatment twice, once for all the rocks and once on the original castle. Now I'm just letting it grow after I moved the rocks to the front corn...

Beast Mode snail

Just thought I'd share this one. Apparently I have a snail that wants to get into Beast Mode. This is all black sand substrate, but it climbed all the way up the side of the tank and went inverted on the biofilm. Thought it was interesting. Shot with my new S22 Ultra at 108MP, but compressed to fit ...

Re: Dust algae

The stuff on the bottom looks the same as my tank, those floaters are what I end up scraping off the tank walls. I don't leave the scraped stuff in, I pull it out. There's a macro algea plus the dust algea, so they're not starving. I rotate the large shells out when they become covered, a bleach soa...

Re: Pale anxious shrimp ):

From all my research, if your numbers look good, ammonia and whatnot, then a water change really won't help. However, if for some reason there is something in there that your test strips are not detecting, a water change couldn't hurt. Just remember that you'll need to make it brackish before adding...

Re: Pale anxious shrimp ):

They do go nearly translucent when stressed, usually they'll bounce back to red within a short amount of time once the stressor has passed. It wouldn't be completely out of the question for the fly to have brought something into the tank. You gotta remember they basically live on shi*, so all the na...
