Berried shrimp chased by other shrimp
Hi friends, I have this weird situation in which one of my shrimp appears to have become berried and is carrying at least one of the eggs outside the body. There are only two shrimp in this very tiny tank. The other one occasionally chases the berried one in a way I’ve never seen them do. The berrie...

Ratio of water to algae
Hi, I’d like to expand one of my tanks, a very small 0.25gal mostly enclosed jar with only two shrimp. I’m planning on increasing it to closer to 0.75gal with still only the two shrimp. Besides the water, what else should I add? I recall being told that there can’t be too much calcium carbonate? I’d...

Re: Isolate injured shrimp?
I didn’t realize at the time that alphas are a different breed (I think). At any rate, in the time since, I believe the injured shrimp has grown his legs back. Difficult to tell because, if he did, they are completely transparent— I have no idea what that means.

Re: Isolate injured shrimp?
Thankfully it seems to be the case, was worried cause I saw another thread here (I think) saying that the “alphas” were harassing an injured shrimp

Re: Isolate injured shrimp?
Do shrimp fight each other in general? I’m thinking of adding more from another tank into this one but I’m worried about infighting or attempts to eat one another.

Isolate injured shrimp?
Hi, One of my shrimp has been injured and seems to be missing his front legs. His mobility is otherwise fine and he swims well, but he sits strangely without the front legs to support him. He’s less mobile than usual, but I can’t tell if that’s due to the injury. It’s only been a few hours since I n...

Re: Algae stuck to shrimp
It looks to be stuck to one or two of the legs on its right side. It’s currently in an ecosphere, I won’t be home for a few weeks and can’t move them until then. There are incredibly small (indescribably so, about the width of one of their legs and only slightly longer) organisms that move fairly ra...

Algae stuck to shrimp
Hi, one of my shrimp has a piece of algae stuck to its foot. It’s been over 24hr and, while at first I thought it was intentional, the shrimp seems to be trying to get it off and even flinging itself through the water during attempts. Should I be worried? Can I assist somehow?

Oxygen and gas exchange
Hello, do shrimp need open tanks? At the present I have a very small opening in my tank setup, a circle with about 2-3mm diameter. This is to avoid dust falling in. Do they need more, or is gas exchange relatively minor? Thanks!

Re: 0.3gal tank
Also, if it is feasible to make such a small tank work, will they be uncomfortable? I felt that since they were relatively few they’d be okay with limited space, but wanted to double check.

Re: Substrate/calcium carbonate amounts
Thank you, I do think I put too few, pH is mid 7 at the present. Will add more of the pebbles.

Re: 0.3gal tank
Oh no, just saw this. I test for salinity, ammonia, and a variety of other things. I currently keep it mostly covered with a small hole, and have something over the hole to avoid dust. I set the tank up according to website specifications with the substrate, carbonate rocks, salt, and macroalgae, an...

Re: Have 8-year Old Ecosystem Shrimp - Not sure what to do
Hey, great experience. I’m about to do my own ecosphere transfer, do you have any advice beyond the instructions on the main site?

Substrate/calcium carbonate amounts
Hello, does the amount of substrate/calcium carbonate pebbles matter? Would too much calcium carbonate alter the pH? I was planning to dump the contents of my ecosphere in, pebbles and all. While I’m here, how do I clean the tank adequately enough to avoid traces of tap water? Can I use distilled wa...

0.3gal tank
Hello,
Would a 0.3gal tank suffice for three shrimp? The tank would otherwise have every recommendation, including the macroalgae. I’m not interested in adding more, and would get a new tank if they bred, but time being would they be happy in such a small space?
Thanks!
