Hi am welcome. Just a few comments. . . If you are using a lot of ferts, you will probably want to back off for the sake of the shrimp, particularly anything that contains copper can be deadly to invertebrates. You are likely to find that a healthy population of shrimp will take the place of the UV ...

I do want to add that I don't necessarily think that the 100% pure seaweed food is the ultimate shrimp food, only that it is one good source of unadulterated natural food for my shrimp. Varitey is important and this is just one of the foods that I think is a really good option.

Few things will eat cyanobacteria. I had a tiny bit of it in my shrimp tank once and none of them were remotely interested.

You can remove BGA from most any tank with a simple 4 day blackout. No peeking! It's the only effective method I know of that is safe for all other living critters. Many other types of algae will survive but BGA can't live long without a little sunlight. The shrimp will be fine for 3 days without an...

mustafa,

Thanks for that link to the cheap nice gravel. I'll try it in the next shrimp tank I set up.

I only have Cherries and have been feeding this food for the past month. I am feeding it along with the Omega One Veggie Rounds which have whole kelp and spirulina as the first ingredient before the animal based ingredients. I take a tiny chunk from a wafer and crush it into sand sized particles bef...

I like the mixed color (red and black) Flourite. I know it is expensive, but it does look really nice.

I may try eco-complete the next time around, but for now I am very happy with the Fluorite.

I just bought a little can of a new food that is worth sharing about here. I came across it at an out of town fish store and was very pleased to find a new and interesting food for my shrimp. It is "Julian Sprung's Sea Veggies: Mixed Seaweed Flakes (Porphyra, Palmaria, and Ulva spp.)" prod...

Intentionally poisoning your shrimp with nitrates might not be the best course of action. At best you will end up with unhealthy shrimp and at worst you will kill them all.

Most folks here would not think of that as responsible shrimp keeping.

I was fortunate to attend one of Dr. Santos' lectures on these shrimp this spring. I also consulted with him by email for assistance with a research paper on these shrimp. I summarized some of the interesting points in the lecture in this thread: http://www.petshrimp.com/discussions/viewtopic.php?t=...

Dan, Definitely back off on the water treatment chemicals. Other than your dechlorinator, the others are not necessary. Best thing you can do to assure good water is to do regular water changes. I change 50% a week which is a little more than most around here. My shrimp are breeding regularly and I'...

Daudin, a turkey baster is like a very big eye dropper. It looks like this and you can find them at any kitchen utensil store.

A tiny piece of missing appendages will usually be regenerated at the next molt. I have two of these and for a treat I sometimes toss in a pinch of freeze dried brine shrimp dust from the bottom of a can of brine shrimp cubes. They LOVE it and really show off their filter feeding behavior. Just a ti...

I agree that hornwort is messy in aquariums. It is good for soaking up nitrogen wastes though.

I'd suggest anachris over hornwort since it is a bit sturdier and easier to deal with.
