Very interesting lecture. Some highlights: 1) can survive in salinity from 0-50ppt. Suggested 20ppt for breeding in home aquarium. 2) genetic studies recently completed now indicate that there are at least several and probably at least 7 distinct species of Halocaridina which may not be capable of i...

This website here is correct. Mustafa makes a great effort to ensure that his informaton is correct and current. Some other sites simply want to sell you something and don't even know what they are selling! Live Aquaria also has their Red Cherry shrimp labeled with an incorrect species name (Caridin...

My personal goal is to keep nitrates below 10ppm and I would get very concerned if it is 20ppm or higher. But I know that planted tank gurus purposefully dose nitrate higher than that and also have success with shrimp. I would not be concerned with 10ppm nitrate enough to start monkeying around with...

Last month when I got my shrimp, I was given about a half dozen of these. I tossed them in and now have what looks like hundreds of baby snails. I don't really mind, but I did remove the adults and will end up crushing most of the babies to serve as shrimp food. They are really pretty snails though ...

I won't say that denitrators aren't effective, because they definitely work. However, nitrate is only one of countless chemical compounds that we remove when we do our water changes. Living organisms produce a very wide range of other waste products which we can simplify and describe as DOC's (Disso...

The eggs are fertilized shortly after mating which occurs shortly after the female molts. The male deposits a packet of sperm underneath the female and the eggs are fertilized as they travel from the ovary to the pleopods. You will know the eggs are fertilized when she is carrying them beneath her a...

I can't say if either melafix or pimafix are shrimp-safe, but if you are using it to treat fish, I would highly suggest removing the fish to a quarantine tank for treatment. It would be best for your shrimp not to monkey around with the water conditions if at all possible. My personal opinion after ...

Ok, much better that it is nitrate instead of nitrite. But your nitrates are still very high, much higher than i would be comfortable keeping shrimp. If I were you, I would back off on the feeding completely and continue with daily or every-other-day water changes until the nitrate level comes down ...
