P.paludosus tends to have red bans on their claws and antenna. P.kadiakensis are more gracile. Hmm. Sounds interesting. I've never seen the P. paludosus around here before, only the kadiakensis. They more difficult to breed than most algae-eating shrimp in that their young go through short plankton...

Palaemonetes kadiakensis VS. paludosus
Can someone please help me with the differences between the two? I've seen more confusion over these two species than any other on many websites. I checked the archives on this site, and someone said that the kadiakensis is relatively rare and hard to breed. I had hasked Mustafa about this species q...

Well, as an update Bradimus and I were correct. The green mass inside the female's body was indeed eggs developing within her ovaries. Sometime last night she must have had the clutch because this morning there are about 20 to 40 eggs under her swimmerettes, which is about 3 times the size of her la...

My tank has a substrate of crushed coral and is heavily planted with anacharis and hornwort (sorry don't know the scientific names yet). I keep the temperature around 78-80F. The Ph stays pretty high due to the crushed coral, around 8 to 8.3 which is ideal for my apple snails but I guess the shrimp ...

Good points about those greens. Spinach is pretty high in calcium, but for maximum calcium you should go with collard greens. Collard greens are packed with calcium and are pretty low on phosphorus, so there is less of a chance of an algal bloom. I've frozen spinach and fed it to my snails and shrim...

Well I thought I was the only one on this board that gets excited about ghost shrimp. I'm glad I'm not! So ghost shrimp are harder than some other species to breed eh? Well I'm glad I'm starting off on more than a beginner's level then. And I'm also glad that my shrimp are feeling well enough in the...

Ahhhh, indeed! :D That's excellent news to me. I'm sure that most everyone here looks at ghost shrimp with a low brow and a high nose, but I think they're absolutely fun. They're easy to obtain, cheap, easy to maintain, and as I'm discovering they are also easy to breed. Once I've mastered breeding ...

I've observed the eggs when they are mature and ready to hatch on one of the females a couple weeks ago, and indeed they turn clear and have 2 eye spots. But this green mass is not even on the outside of their bodies yet. I mean to say that if they are indeed eggs, she hasn't even moved them to the ...

Interesting green mass....
Quick question: I've noticed on two of my female ghost shrimp there is a green mass right under the exoskeleton of the cephalothorax and just right above the stomach. One of the female's had an egg clutch hatch about 1.5 weeks ago and the other looks to be really close to breeding size. Is this mass...

I would love to go check out the OKC club. We have nothing like that down here in Ardmore, this town is pretty small and there is only one shop in town that you can buy fish from (besides the local Wal-Mart Supercenter) The only shrimp species I can get around here are just ghost shrimp and a...

macrobrachium
I'm still new here so I can't tell you much, except that not many people keep macrobrachium shrimp because they're so agressive and have such large claws that they like to take chunks out of lots of living things. You probably won't find much info on how to breed them since not many people like them...
