Re: I thought I bought Ghost Shrimp
Well they died after a few days, so I definitely need to get a separate tank to breed them. I'm not sure if I have the time to properly raise larvae, though.

Re: I thought I bought Ghost Shrimp
Thanks, Mustafa. Eggs just started hatching! :D I guess I won't have time to get a separate container this time. I'll try dripping tank water into the container to force water exchange and maybe some bio-filter rocks (or would those sharp edges be harmful?). It's amazing watching the little guys slo...

Re: Shrimp ID?
Thanks for trying, Mustafa. I'll keep them in bin on their own then (good thing I keep an extra cycled sponge filter around ). From the claws, it looks like I have two males and two females so I hope I can breed them. I'll update when they coloring up.

Shrimp ID?
I was driving around to different fish shops looking for a male M. lanchesteri and I "accidentally" came home with these: http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/6681/p1090293xy2.th.jpg http://img381.imageshack.us/img381/4347/p1090295tr3.th.jpg http://img381.imageshack.us/img381/7694/p1090297zn...

Re: I thought I bought Ghost Shrimp
Thanks for the confirmation, Mustafa! I remembered those black markings and the reddish back from the pictures on this forum. I'd love to breed them, but I don't have any males :( I guess I have to go around to all the LFS's and check their Ghost shrimp tanks for a male. I'll need see if I can set u...

I thought I bought Ghost Shrimp
A while back I bought four berried Ghost shrimp (and two non-berried) to see if I could raise the larvae. The larvae lasted a week until I tried direct feeding :( I haven't been able to try again since the two non-berried shrimp died shortly after I bought them and I only have females left. Yesterda...

It's one of those hanging containers that fish stores use. I made a frame out of Lego pieces (it was the only thing I could find) and put it in a media bag from my Aquaclear filter. I also put some actual media in the bag to help maintain water quality. The last thing is a fish net on top to make su...

First try at ghost shrimp breeding
Well not exactly breeding as much as buying berried shrimp from the LFS... I decided that before even thinking of trying shrimp with larvae that need salt, I'd try the relatively easier ghost shrimp first. So here's a photo log of my experience (if it's too hard to see, click on the picture to see a...

If their habitat has currents that pull the larvae into the ocean or brackish areas, then I'd guess that they had to adapt to be able to survive the salt (until they're post-larvae and make their way back to freshwater). If their natural habitat isn't near any saltwater, then they would never have n...

For extra protection, you could use a piece of plexiglass. Just get a hole drilled in it for the screwdriver. If there's as much pressure as they make it sound, I wouldn't trust just a towel (well, maybe if it was like those x-ray aprons ;-) ). Also, a punch would be better than a screwdriver, if yo...
