Are you sure they're ghost shrimp? If they are indeed Palaemonetes sp., then they are injected with dye or fed dyed foods to obtain that color because glass/ghost shrimp are naturally clear in color. There are orange shrimp, but they are in the Caridina genus I think. Do the ones you're talking abou...

oh man, I recognize that trademark in the lower right corner. They're the same folks who are selling the 'orange glass shrimp' I asked about http://www.petshrimp.com/discussions/viewtopic.php?t=2807 They also said those were wild-caught and all of them look like that, when it's actually just shrimp ...

Sorry for wasting space and presenting myself as an arrogant bastard. you didn't come off like that, at least not to me. Believe me, some people come here with WAY more of an attitude than you did. When people immediately start spouting about how they know so much, and make it evident that they wil...

I think I have contracted the disease that is circulating this forum. lol, Sean :-D Welcome to the Club. You think it's the shrimp that are eating your discus fry? I don't think that's possible with RCS. It is definitely a possibility with Macrobrachium shrimp and maybe ghost shrimp (I still hear c...

It's just that the longarm shrimp are more fun to observe, as they tend to be territorial. Also, the individuals often have different characters. They build a community, fight for domination - it's like watching a gangster movie ;) that's fascinating! I can totally see where you're coming from. The...

Those were AWESOME, Jackie, thanks! The one about passion vs. obsession is an important one to remember ;-) I find myself constantly needing to make that distinction, too, when I deal with people in 'real life'. Constant fights or deaths of shrimp usually mean WE did something wrong. Absolutely. IMO...

I had bad experience before... Probably the tank was too small (only 10 gallons), not enough space for them...they turned aggressive towards each other and hurt themselves so badly... I'm sorry you had such a bad experience with them. Crays sound neat. I would suspect the space was too small, like ...

wow, that's just scary how it can affect humans. Of course, we all know they can kill our aquatic critters, but if I were to have certain medical procedures with chloramine-treated water I might die.

 You mean the chloramines/ammonia in tap water can actually kill people, if they get directly into the bloodstream?? Ai-yai-yai.

hi Opopanax :) If your tap water conditioner doesn't say it also neutralizes ammonia, and your tap water contains chloramine, the cleaving of the chloramines will result in free toxic ammonia. Even if you did use Prime or Amquel, I think it's best to treat chloramine-treated water at least 10 minute...
