Re: MiniShrimps
I snuck down last night to check the tank after the light had been off for a few hours and there on the lava rocks was another berried female. She had about 7 or 8 eggs that I could count but she quickly moved back into the cave when the light came on so I only saw her for about twenty seconds...

Re: MiniShrimps
So I have seen a few of the larvae here and there but none that have transitioned into shrimplets yet. I saw one last night kind of popcorning around maybe trying to molt... They seem to disappear for a little while then pop up again. I moved my tank to an area of my house that is less disturbed by ...

Re: Overfed...I think???
You probably won't need to do much, it should resolve itself over a couple days... I would recheck the water quality parameters in a few days.turtle wrote:Update:
Ammonia, Nitrates/Nitrites, PH are all normal. So I assume I just leave things be. I assume the cloudiness and odor are normal? Thanks!

Re: MiniShrimps
Boom! Larvae! I spotted at least four larvae floating around last night and one this morning. The others (from last night) disappeared so perhaps they went to hide until they are a little bigger... Baby Shrimp! So cool!

Re: Dwarf Hermit Crab Tank (Calcinus laevimanus)
I haven't updated this post in a while... I ended up acquiring about 8 more crabs, my iintital purchases of crabs all died. I have had these 8 crabs now for about two months and they all seem to be doing fine. The tan they are in is growing all sorts of algae on the rocks and i feed them once a week...

Re: MiniShrimps
About 30-35 days is what I was told back when I got my first berried females. You'll know they are near hatching as the eggs change shape and even start to move about as the larva struggle to get free. Sweet I can't wait! But to be honest, I have no idea how long she's been berried, I haven't seen ...

Re: MiniShrimps
So late last night i turned on my tank light to watch the shrimp for a littel while. They are still most active during the "lights out". I noticed a shrimp i haven't see in a while making an appearance and so w looked a little closer to see that she was carrying 7 little eggs! :D I only go...

Re: Moving
I have moved both my 5.5 gallon tank and 2.5 gallon shrimp tanks a few times from office to home and I just moved to a new home. It's not more than twenty miles or so, not quite as long as cross country. Usually my plan of attack for my small tank is to leave the critters in their habitat. My lava r...

Re: im so excited!
a friend of mine just put a piece of white paper over the top of his tank and it worked great to diffuse the light. He has a bright, low heat emitting, LED light so, not a fire hazard, but I wouldn't recommend this with incandescent type bulbs... I switched to full spectrum, fluorescent tubes in a s...

Photosynthesis! 75% or more of the oxygen in the planet’s atmosphere is actually produced by photosynthetic algae and cyanobacteria. Algae are plant-like microorganisms that preceded plants in developing the ability to turn sunlight into energy. Algae cells contain light-absorbing chloroplasts and p...

Re: MiniShrimps
Jut wanted to post an update... My Shrimp are doing great, I rarely see them since they hide in the cave until the light shuts off, but when they come out they are noticeably getting bigger. I have seen at least six or seven molted skins already. My three trumpet snails are also getting bigger and m...

Re: Fred the Ecosphere rescue...help!
I would definitely add more water to that jar. Is it a 1/2 gallon? Might as well fill it up. Fred won't be making any leaps out of the top like fish try to do. Just make sure you use Distilled or Reverse Osmosis water. The shrimp love to cruise around and climb up stuff. And, the more water the less...
