Re: Something wrong with my snails

What kind of snail is it? Not all fresh water snails can survive in brackish water.
You could add 20 shrimp to a half gallon tank. Given that they will breed and it's a relatively small tank, I would probably just add 10 and wait.

Re: Discovered A New Brackish Water Plant!

Ace, that's really frustrating! I go to southern California a few times a year. If I find myself in the San Diego area, I will stop by for you and I'm sure we can work something out.

Re: Nanosphere 9

It's always a bummer when a shrimp drops all of her eggs. At least you know your tank is healthy, and I think you will have more berried shrimp soon.

Re: Ecosphere Empathy

I think you should wait to add them until you see algae growing in the tank.
I know it's hard to wait, but I think it's for the best! :)

Re: shrimp without legs!!

I think you need to get rid of the filter. Find a cover for the tank, and then leave them alone. The more you change the water, the more frequently they may try to molt, which is not good for them right now. They need to heal. Since you already changed the water, please take the filter out. There is...

Re: Beginner Jar-Habitat

Congratulations! A berried shrimp carries her eggs for about a month, until they are released as larvae. Then, about 2 weeks later, they stop bobbing head down and become benthic tiny shrimps. In have read that the larvae are more sensitive than shrimp, so top up your tank before the larvae are rele...

My advice is to wait. The cloudiness will settle on its own.

Re: A novice with more questions

I don't think that you should. These shrimp thrive in a mature tank. When people set up a tank without following the recommended steps on this site, they frequently encounter problems. I can't think of a poster who followed the method and lost shrimp. I do not remember exactly how long I waited befo...

Re: Supershrimp Mossballs vs. Marimo Balls

I'm sorry for not being clear. Sometimes what I write does not come across the way I intend it to. :) Since the light in my tank makes the macro algae that I have pale green, I wondered if it would do the same to one of the moss balls from Mustafa (I don't have a moss ball yet). I have heard that st...

Re: Cobwebs?? What's this stuff, is it bad?

Your post reminded me of another on this site, so I did a search. Take a look at this thread: http://www.petshrimp.com/discussions/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=5874&p=38735&hilit=Cobwebs#p38735 Another person had the same issue. I don't know how she resolved it, but she speculated it was a verme...

I think your tank looks great!!
They do not need hiding places (Mustafa has bare breeding tanks) and there is plenty of surface area for algae.

Re: Why the cycling fuss !?

Like Varanus mentioned already, the cycling products are not reliable. I'm no expert on this subject, but bacteria will not survive in a bottle long term. Also, if the bottle had no expiration date, I think it does not have live bacteria in it. This has been discussed in other forums by people who k...

Re: Thoughts on Nerite Snails

I would not introduce nerites to a tank that was not well established and had plentiful algae. It's hard to wait, but waiting is the best way to cycle your tank. These shrimp live for so long, that waiting a few months to properly establish their tank is a small price to pay. Just try to be patient ...
