Re: Amano eating RCS? +nerite problem

So my little nerite ended up making a full recovery! If you end up trying another nerite down the line, but it still seems to have issues with your FW tank, pop it in your opae tank. The brackish water is best for them!

Re: Amano eating RCS? +nerite problem

He's on his back feebly moving around, still, after I moved him into another tank, but I do not have any hope for him. Reading up on the issue - it seems like tons of water changes, gravel vacuuming and doubling up on activated carbon in the filter might help (I do not use activated carbon and may t...

Re: Amano eating RCS? +nerite problem

I just had the same problem with Fish Bendazole :( Even after several water changes and a filter change, the nerite I just purchased died.

Re: New to super shrimp.

Mech, I have one tiger nerite I pop between 2 tanks. I originally had one nerite per 1-gal aquarium, but the zebra nerite died. I think I could get another now, since I upgraded tanks.

Re: New to super shrimp.

Moving shrimp: I had good luck chasing them into a tiny 1/4 cup measuring cup after emptying most of the tank water. They will burrow into the gravel (another reason sand is better) so you have to delicately prod them towards the cup. It's definitely not easy. I had a 1 gallon initially and recently...

Re: Keeping snails shells healthy (calcium)

Well, I got home from a short holiday trip and found my nerite Lyle on the floor a foot away from my aquariums. No idea how long he'd been there, but he ended up being totally fine when I popped him back into his tank. Whew! Word of warning to anyone with a rimless tank! Apparently you will need to ...

Shrimp With Green On Back?

Hey forum! I have a weird shrimp! It is very pale with some deep green patches on its back. At first I thought it might be from eating algae off the coral, but they're all eating the same thing and no one else looks like this little dude. I've attached some crappy pictures that kind of capture what'...

Re: Keeping snails shells healthy (calcium)

It is actually kind of unbelievable to see the difference they make. I pop my nerite between aquariums when one starts to look a little grungy, and he cleans up all the glass within a couple of days, then gets working on the decor. They are miracle snails.

Re: Keeping snails shells healthy (calcium)

As far as acclimatization goes: nerites are actually brackish, so they thrive in salty environs. I have a tiger nerite who I pop back and forth between my FW and opae ula aquarium with no acclimatization at all. The only thing I would be careful about is large temperature differences. This also seem...

Re: Seamlessly & Safely Upgrading a Tank

Update: I ran the filter for a few more hours and it really cleared everything up quite a bit. It turns out I actually have 9 surviving shrimp out of my original 14, following the Clorox contamination and the one stuck in the molt. I could have sworn only 8 survived! They all appear to be fine, and ...

Re: mech's opae'ula thread

So awesome! I wish you luck with breeding those banded shrimp. That really is a cool look, and that is one gorgeous shrimp!

What size cubes are thoses? They look remarkably similar to the glass 2.5gals I just bought on sale.

Re: Seamlessly & Safely Upgrading a Tank

Mech--- Oh no! It's crazy how just the tiniest amount of something can have a big impact. I'm certain I must have had just a trace on my hands, but it caused a lot of damage in my 1-gal tank. I'll be much more careful in the future with both my FW and Opae Ula tanks. They're both getting the upgrade...

Re: Seamlessly & Safely Upgrading a Tank

Stuff settled overnight and covered EVERYTHING! One shrimp is even covered in scum, and I don't feel very optimistic about this little guy being OK. I put a filter on, filled it with extra floss pads, and stirred up all the gunk. I ran the filter for an hour and everything cleared up completely! The...

Re: Seamlessly & Safely Upgrading a Tank

Well, I did it. I somehow wrangled all the shrimp out into a bowl and they were all OK, though clearly traumatized. Currently, they are all hiding in the lava rock pile. The dirty water scum is settling in a layer all over everything in the tank, though. This doesn't seem good.... I do have a filter...
