Re: Hiya, New here! Help me save this shrimp!
Cloudy is normal and should resolve itself completely in a few days. Regarding jiggles and vibrations  , the shrimp like things pretty still and may find it stressful. I'd try to minimize tank movement as much as possible. Feel enormously free to cut bits off your plastic aquarium plant and arr...

Re: Setup suggestions needed for newbie
I second Vorteil's new toothbrush suggestion to clean up the view. I'd also stop feeding for a while—that algae shows they have plenty of food. They'll eat up whatever falls to the bottom. It's also possible the shells retained some tiny bits of organic matter that helped feed the algae and the tank...

That's a fantastic vid!marianne wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2020 12:28 pm Hi all,
Today I got extremely lucky ! A female with tons of almost-ready-to-go larvae stayed just in front of the aquarium, and close to the surface ! I've been able to capture the lil' critters up close

Re: Hiya, New here! Help me save this shrimp!
I’m in Western Ny. Any readers in Geneva, Ny, I’ll have extra supplies if anyone is in need :) You're on your way! I used to live in Oneonta, but never made it over as far as Geneva. It looks like there might be an interesting salt water aquarium shop in Canandaigua called The Salty Dog . Could be ...

Re: Setup suggestions needed for newbie
Does anybody have comments on how to control the algae? The water is not as clean as before. I keep the tank under low natural light. There are 10 shrimp and about 10 snail (plus baby snails). Size of container is about 1.4 gallon. How much/how often are you feeding? The water should be crystal cle...

Re: Hiya, New here! Help me save this shrimp!
That is the snazziest shrimp home I have seen. They are going to love it! If you want to share what state/area you live in you might find a neighbor here who could help with small amounts of salt and stuff. I know what you mean about the giant bags at Petco  Or a local fish shop near you might ...

Re: Hiya, New here! Help me save this shrimp!
Welcome, Jen! I say get a 1-gal tank and free the shrimp \o/ The benefit of a larger tank is it's less reactive to small changes. A covered 1-gal tank can fit a good number of shrimp, so there will be plenty of room for new shrimp friends for your single adoptee :D If you follow the step-by-step ins...

Re: Currently cycling w/ questions
I was thinking of adding snails with the shrimp down the road as I was reading the system is more complete with them. Remove the filter, reduce the sand depth, and order some petshrimp snails with your shrimp to do the work for you :) You can order your shrimp as soon as you see tiny spots of visib...

Re: New babies
I would say there is still hope for your missing shrimp. There is always hope. Mine disappear completely shortly after becoming benthic and don't turn up again for at least a month or two. I recently spotted a newly benthic shrimp disappearing into the aragonite gravel, and only because the light h...

Re: Supershrimp mossball reproduction
I know this is an older post but are there any new lessons learned or info about these mossballs? The lesson I learned was I ought to have bought several at once and saved on shipping  For real though, they are super slow growing but mine seem to grow best in the warmer months. No heater in my...

Re: help me make a paradigm shift -- why no sponge filter?
I agree with sliphorn, and my opae experience has been the same. These shrimp benefit profoundly from the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" philosophy. My water is beautifully clear, the aragonite and lava rocks provide tons of surface area for beneficial bacteria, and mossballs keep the b...

Then snails in the small cup appears to be breeding (about 2-3 tiny ones). I'm still waiting for the tank to fully cycled -- ie, for some sign of algae. i don't see any yet. should i be adding food to the tank to speed up the cycling? or could it be that the room temperature is about 18'C (cold in ...

Re: When can you add the supershrimp Mossball to the tank?(new setup)
Those bowls look neat! Definitely get the big one. You will want to find a way to cover the top to keep stuff from falling in and contaminating the water, and to reduce evaporation.
Add the mossball whenever you like. It should contain some good bacteria to help kickoff the cycle, too.
