Re: in berry with no male?
Well she molted again yesterday and today I noticed berries. I'm getting the impression that females don't need a male in the tank to be in berry. And for the record, I stopped using iodine additions. So far everything's going well, thanks Mustafa and all for the great input!

Re: What to do? - Just my luck
It's possible to raise cherries with livebearers, but you have to give the shrimp a place where they can retreat to once they molt. I currently have a tank with Hi-Fin Variatus that has had a cherry in with them for over a year now. As far as propagating a whole colony, I wish you the best of luck, ...

Re: Shrimp larvea and bristlenoses
Hi Mike, I learned the hard way too, but had a really heavy water change I only change 1/3 of the tank water now. If something meaty happens to fall in front of their noses, then they are not going to say "no" to the meal. However, they are not going to go hunting. Precisely put Mustafa! S...

Re: Shrimp larvea and bristlenoses
Hi Mike, small sucker mouth catfish seem to need more protein than larger speicies. And fry need even more protein. Shrimp larvae molt more often and seem to give off an attractive "smell" after they molt, so it's possable that they were eaten by bristlenoses before the shell hardened. Got...

Re: Celebes Jungle Crabs
They are expensive, at the moment. When more are available the price will come down. I've never kept crabs, but they always facinated me. So , when "fresh water crabs" became available, I had to get them. As for shipping, mine arrived in "deli" containers with a couple of holes p...

Re: alder cones
So, as I understand it, alder cones do the same thing as peat moss, oak and beech leaves. But, alder cones are more concentrated? I was under the illusion they had some "medicinal" chemical other than tannins and acids.

Re: Pics of my rescued OPAE ULA in a goldfish bowl
I do'nt know how to make my water brackish You don't have to worry about mixing salt to correct specifications for brackish. It's defined as any water between fresh water and salt water. So every time you change the water you can fudge a little more water this time, a little more salt next. No set ...

Re: alder cones
help boost the immune system and help ward of health problems. I have some elder cones, when I bought them I was told that they leach a chemical that suppresses the growth of fungus. I don' think they have anything to do with "boosting" the immune system other than keeping an injury free ...

Re: Fittings. Nylon, brass, polyethylene etc.
I wouldn't worry about replacing your white fittings. If they break , replace them, otherwise they are TOTALLY safe for you and inverts. Toxicity comes into play when there is NO water movement. If water sits for any time (I'm talking months here), chemicals will leach out, and then it "might&q...

Re: Celebes Jungle Crabs
They are actually more terrestrial than anything. You'd need something like a terrarium with lots of humidity for them. I'm not even sure if they necessarily need a large body of water. The young hatch on dry land and start walking around on everything like little spiders. So far they have been out...

Re: Young Cardinal Shrimp
First off, great pics again! It's nice to read these experiences and see pics to back them up. I think I saw my red claw macros breeding, but I didn't think the male was old enough. "She" was one of my original aquisitions and "he" was one of the offspring. She had just molted, a...

Re: Fittings. Nylon, brass, polyethylene etc.
I work in the plastic industry. A lot of colors , dyes are the technical term, in plastic have varying amounts of lead in them. If you bought a fitting that is rated for "human consumption use", it generally means that any toxins in it are "insignificant". Most plastics that are ...

Re: Baby Ghost Shrimp
The most difficult aspect about raising ghost shrimp is having faith in the first week or two that you do have a lot of nearly invisible larvae present and to continue to feed the apparently empty tank. They are after all, Ghost Shrimp. This is apparently true, as today I discovered 3 juveniles abo...

DSC00694.JPG DSC00691.JPG I finally managed to get some photo's. Just a footnote to my first post on this thread, I misspelled Geosesarma. It's spelled correctly on this post. Thanks for the tech input Mustafa. :D And thanks for pointing out the spelling error, I do try to spell specie names correc...
