removing shrimp - tricks/tips?

In a week or so, I'm moving. I'm going to have to remove 20 small (less than 1 cm) cherry shrimp from a 10-gallon tank. The tank has two large pieces of driftwood covered with a thick growth of java fern. Everytime I think about fishing them out, I need a drink :) Any suggestions (on removing the sh...

It's been a long time - I don't have any of their emails. I used to deal mostly with a woman named Vinita. The last time I spoke with her was just after the tsunami. She was always more than happy to ask other fishkeepers about what they were keeping. Not sure about the status of the invertebrate ho...

Thailand probably has some great shrimp, and all the Thai folks I've talked to online over the years are EXTREMELY friendly and helpful. It would be worth it to inquire with some Thai betta keepers, since many are very familiar with shipping to the US.

Shrimp and algae balls

I'm growing a marimo ball, and was thinking that some kind of shrimp would be ideal to keep it from getting fouled with detritus. But that got me thinking...since most caridinids are algae feeders, will they wear a marimo ball down? How about ghost shrimp - are they likely to nibble on marimo? I see...

Slightly OT, but has anyone seen suppliers listing any of those odd, dorsoventrally flattened crayfish (I think that's what they are) from South America? I've seen photos here and there, but I was wondering if they've been appearing on importers' lists.

Not surprising considering their location/habitat - one good storm would wipe them out if they couldn't handle a sudden shift.

There are a number of commercial foods with color enhancers added, and a number of vegetables contain high amounts of carotenoids.

I'll take the deafening silence as a big ol' "I dunno." :)

breeding Hawaiian reds

I've searched the forums and I see words like "easiest" and most adaptable." But from the threads on this site, Halacaridina seems rather hit-or-miss. Am I just getting the wrong idea because the difficulties are getting more forum time than the successes? Chime in, Opae keepers...

Color in Cherries

Okay, "mood and food" make a difference in the red color of cherry red shrimp (why can't we just call them cherry shrimp so as to avoid confusion with CRS?), but does anyone know for sure: Are we dealing with a carotenoid pigment in the shrimp, or is the mutation simply producing a defecti...
