It's nothing like your setup. I just have tanks on a metal shelf, on my desk, and on two stands.

As a precaution keep a close watch on the water params for the next week. I think that older shrimp are more susceptible to environmental toxins. It could also likely be just as bulrush said, she died of old age. RCS only live around 12 to 18 months.

Yes they are a species of marine prawn. But they're beautiful, and I'd set up a few tanks for them.

There's one species that's not native to the U.S., but has been introduced to the South Eastern coast, that I would still like to get. Penaeus monodon or Asian Tiger shrimp. http://cars.er.usgs.gov/posters/Nonindigenous/Nonindigenous_Crustaceans/tiger2.jpg http://cars.er.usgs.gov/posters/Nonindigeno...

Neat, but I wouldn't recommend drinking your magical tank water. ;)

By the way, did you get your Red Claw shrimp from a pet store in Orem? That's where I found the four I purchased (two male, two female). They've produced over three hundred offspring.

Welcome! It's a beautiful shrimp you've got, whichever species it is. Your loaches are not the best of companions for any shrimp. And you should be made aware that many Macrobrachium species are known for much more aggression than dwarf shrimp. Some are voracious hunters and can take out fish much l...

Sorry about that, I missed your reference to salt content. It's likely that my crab was older, it was given to me by a friend who didn't have the space to keep it properly. He bought it on a whim and had it in a communal tank, without means to easily get out of water. I also like my crayfish and pra...

Great setup fishbone! Is the water freshwater, brackish, or salt water? Brackish water seems to be their preferred water type. But the documentation I read also stated to give them a freshwater pool as well. One thing you should watch out for is, with substrate that deep, and static, if it contains ...

I'm very glad to hear of your success! The dwarf leg should be back to normal with the next molt.

Good luck!

Yep, looks like a C. quadricarinatus. But it's color is very muted. Here's a picture of mine, in technocolor ;) They do have some red areas, that look pink in your photo, so I don't think the pink is a bad sign. However, the general faded body tones lead me to think it's very stressed. I hope it imp...

Shrimp reproduction question

I was asked this question by another, via email, and I could not find an answer to it in the forum, or online. Apparently he had Red Claw shrimp that would breed, but all of the offspring would turn out to be male. I have never heard of this with true shrimp. I know that some of the lower types of s...

That's great. I noticed that one of mine had eggs, but she ended up dropping most of them (the last I was able to get a good look, she only had about 5 left). I really don't know much about breeding bamboo shrimp, but here are my thoughts. Is your phytoplankton fresh or salt water? I've read of one ...
