White balls

I've got ~11 of the brackish snails from Mufasta with 24 shrimp in a 6.5 gallon tank. I'm now seeing small white balls, individual, sitting on top of the substrate, which is black. They look like extremely small round white pebbles, and there are now approximately 10 that I can see scattered all ove...

Re: New shrimp to add to existing tank

Float for 1-2 hours if the water temp feels significantly off from each other. Open bag(s), insert new population into tank. Watch the show. Literally nothing else is required. They are hardy at all salinities considered brackish, so there is no acclimation period necessary. No extra feeding, nothin...

Re: burried females, what to do?

If they are breeding with your current conditions, or pretty much any conditions that they feel comfortable breeding under, you do not have to do a single thing. They do not require any additional food or nutrients. If your macroalgae is shrinking, you might want to bump up the light intake a bit, e...

Re: Dust algae

12ish hours later, rocks soaking in a large plastic cup with hot water and a little bleach and ZERO algae left on rocks. Soaking with hot water with no bleach now, probably going to redo clean water several times then let air dry for awhile before slowly adding back to aquarium. I'm hoping that this...

Re: Dust algae

11 snails in this tank. 10 new with the newest 10 shrimp from Mustafa, plus one big one from the previous tank. This algae is so prolific that they don't make a dent in it. I have watched them crawl across it expecting to see a white stripe of rock, and it is just as green as before they glide acros...

Dust algae

Does anyone have good suggestions for removing rapidly expanding green dust algae other than just shutting the lights off? I've got it growing all over the calcium rocks from Mustafa and it is starting to appear on the shells I have in the tank. Would adding a UV light cause harm to the beneficial b...

Re: 5 Gallon tank sought

Thanks for the tip. I ended up heading to PetSmart tonight and found a 6.5 corner set up that I really like. Of course it came with everything under the sun, but the filter is a drop in one in the back corner so it can be left out completely and only have a small cut out in the rear for gas exchange...

Re: Keeping Blue Leg Hermit Crab with shrimp

I've had the same thought, add something to mix it up. My only concern, regardless of size of the crab is that they'll target the shrimp as snacks.

# of snails/gallon

So how many snails would be good per gallon of tank, if the tank were rarely fed and has a single macroalgae with ~13 shrimp. I ordered 10 from Mustafa, but only 3 have survived, but they are very large now. They don't get all the algae on the glass or a few of the calcium rocks. I have a 1.5 gallon...

Re: 5 Gallon tank sought

I've done a deep dive into the aquarium world of Amazon, and I cannot find one that comes with a lid without the pump/filter walled off area at the back/side of the tank. Obviously I wouldn't use either, but I want full use of the tank size and I don't want to lose shrimp in the back section because...

5 Gallon tank sought

Howdy everyone, I'm currently running a smaller tank that I would like to take up to a 5 gallon set up. I'm having a heck of a time finding a suitable tank for shrimp. Everything seems to come with an integrated filter/water pump, heater, etc. I'm just looking for a basic 5 gallon tank with a lid wi...

Re: Orange Supershrimp breeding project -- finally!

Mustafa I believe you have answered one of my most pressing questions. I have several of my shrimp that look like your last picture, dark up in what I would call the main body/spinal area. If what I'm understanding is correct, this means that they are pregnant females making the eggs before they dro...

Re: Algae stuck to shrimp

Ecospheres are terrible for the shrimp. They need plenty of space to run around and dark places to hide. I started with an ecosphere and after reading up a bit I felt horrible and upgraded to a 1.5 gallon tank with substrate, calcium rocks, shells, and a piece from PetSmart for hiding. Started with ...

Re: Snails

So I took them out of the tank for a further inspection and while I couldn't truly see if the cover was there, a dental probe revealed that they were empty back to the first twist or so. I guess they must have surfaced from the shrimp or live snails agitating the substrate. Dang. I need to order mor...

Re: Snails

These things are so tiny that I cannot tell if it is there or not, even looking under a microscope. I might be able to probe to see if is there, but I'd hate to harm a live snail by doing that even as gently as possible.
